Adrien Broner training video is funny, embarrassing and sad
Adrien Broner has a fight date with legendary Manny Pacquiao. Broner posted a training video that will make you laugh, but it wasn’t meant to be funny.
Adrien Broner (33-3-1, 24 KOs) is set to fight the mythical Manny Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs) on Saturday, Jan. 19 on Showtime pay-per-view. At 39 years old, Pacquiao is in his final stretch as a professional boxer, and his skills are faded, but Broner’s career is on the skids. Broner is 1-1-1 in his last three fights. He hasn’t won a bout since early in 2017. You would think Broner would be desperate to salvage the longevity of his vocation, but he doesn’t appear too worried based on the recent footage.
On Friday, Nov. 23, Broner posted a training montage to his Instagram account. His performance in the video is laughable. The sad part is that he didn’t mean for it to be a joke.
The clip is a minute long and is sure to leave you feeling some type of way. It starts with Broner doing a sort of explosive frog hop deadlift. I’m not sure that’s a real lift, but it’s the best phrase to describe whatever he’s doing. The second portion shows Broner looking somewhat athletic. He’s doing a modified towel pull-up row using a bench press bar. It’s not an easy exercise, and Broner is putting in decent work. The clip goes downhill from there.

At one point, Broner is in bench press position on a cage with guide rails. There’s no weight on the bar, and he’s gliding up and down the rails. I suppose he’s working his abs, but this lift doesn’t look too challenging. There are a million other core exercises that would better serve him.
The highlight of the film has to be Broner’s medicine ball throws and carries. He hurls a sandbag medicine ball over his shoulder like its the last thing in the world he’d like to be doing. His technique is awful, and it’s surprising he didn’t pull a muscle in his back the way he’s breaking at the hips. Broner’s video shows him lackadaisically going through the motions.
While attempting to run with a medicine ball on his shoulder, Broner can’t achieve more than a brisk walk. His knees aren’t driving, and the grimaced look on his face accurately portrays his lack of physical conditioning. He looks like a 30-something-year-old dad entering the gym for the first time in years instead of a professional athlete at the height of his sport.
Broner has eight weeks to get his act together, but he’s starting training camp from the very bottom. Boxers can do amazing things in two months, but they usually come into camp with at least a base level of fitness. Broner’s past erratic behavior could pop up at any time and further distract him from his fight with Pacquiao. If he loses, his days as a serious boxer are over.
