The Arizona Wildcats looked like they were going to make some noise in the Pac-12 South Division a couple of weeks ago, as Khalil Tate finally looked healthy, and the team was dropping 40 points on their opponents. However, it has been nothing but losing since, and this past weekend, they saw their season end with a loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils in the Territorial Cup.
With the loss, the Wildcats will miss out on a bowl game this season, and they could see Tate head to the NFL early. While nothing has been confirmed as of yet, Tate does have an incredible skill set, and if the research comes back that he could be an early round pick, we may have seen the last of the electric signal-caller at Arizona.
Against the Sun Devils, Tate threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns, as JJ Taylor rushed for 144 yards on the ground. Tony Ellison was the recipient of two of Tate’s touchdown throws, but after failing to make themselves bowl eligible, you have to believe that this is a disappointing season for Wildcats fans.
The California Golden Bears continue to win games, and they are doing it thanks to having one of the better defenses in the Pac-12. This past weekend, the Golden Bears held the Colorado Buffaloes to 21 points, and have allowed 21 or fewer points in each of their last five games.
Chase Garbers continues to show that he is going to be a fantastic quarterback in the Pac-12, as he threw for two touchdowns against the Buffaloes. On the defensive side of the ball, the Golden Bears opportunistic defense put this game away early, grabbing two pick-sixes in the first quarter, as Cal got out to a 21-0 lead in the first.
Evan Weaver led the Golden Bears on Saturday with 19 tackles, while standout Jordan Kunaszyk added 14 of his own. Cal became bowl eligible with their win two weeks ago, but still have another game to play, as their matchup with Stanford was postponed due to the wildfires, and will be played this Saturday inside Memorial Stadium.
