Devin Booker seems dedicated to winning in Phoenix

Devin Booker wants to build a superteam in Phoenix — which might be a little easier said than done — but at least he’s committed.

If there’s one thing Phoenix Suns fans can’t question about Devin Booker, it’s his determination.

Though Booker has spent the early years of his young career playing for a borderline irrelevant Suns team, he seems dedicated to turning this organization around making it a force to be reckoned with — something along the lines of the Golden State Warriors, or what the Miami Heat were when they had LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

According to Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo! Sports, Booker wants the Suns to soon be in that same class.

“I want to build a superteam,” Booker said. “I want the superteam to come to me.”

If a superteam were to come to him, it would mean other NBA superstars would have to be lured to Phoenix. Despite his current situation — the Suns are currently the worst team in the Western Conference at 4-15 — Booker seems committed to winning in Phoenix. Loyalty is something that often gets overlooked in professional sports today, and that has to mean something to the fans.

Of course, that could change after a few more frustrating seasons. For one thing, building a superteam in Phoenix wouldn’t be quite the same as it was in Miami or Golden State. The Heat were already a playoff team — heck, they won a championship in 2006 — before James and Bosh arrived. The Warriors had already won a title and had just completed the first ever 73-win season before Kevin Durant came to the Bay.

The Suns are far from a playoff team, or even coming close to making the playoffs. They had the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 Draft, and they look like they might be headed for the same thing again 2019. When you’re constantly in the NBA basement every year, it’s going to be very difficult attracting some free agent stars to join you.

If Booker and No. 1 overall pick DeAndre Ayton can turn the Suns into a team that could make the playoffs, or at least have a winning season, then maybe they can start working on building a superteam.
