The first game between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield was a thrilling 3-2 win for the Reds. The two teams meet again on Wednesday at Paris’ Parc des Princes in a crucial Champions League game. After four games, only two points separate first place Napoli and fourth place Red Star Belgrade. Needless to say, Wednesday’s game between PSG and Liverpool will be a large role in determining which clubs advance to the knockout stage, the Europa League and which team is eliminated.
PSG are perfect in Ligue 1, winning all 14 of their games. However, in the Champions League, Thomas Tuchel’s side have been disappointing. If PSG are going to advance to the knockout stage for the seventh straight season, they will have to win to beat Liverpool on Wednesday. PSG will rely on their front three of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Edinson Cavani, who have combined for 26 goals in all competitions. Both Neymar and Mbappe did not play in PSG’s last Ligue 1 against Toulouse after picking up an injury during the international break. However, that was precautionary and both players are expected to play on Wednesday.
Liverpool are undefeated in the Premier League but find themselves two points behind Manchester City in the table. In the Champions League, Liverpool have won both of their games at Anfield but have lost both of their away games. The Reds were incredibly disappointing in their last game, losing 2-0 to Red Star Belgrade. Roberto Firmino did not start the first game against PSG because of an eye injury but he came on late as a substitute and scored the winning goal. The Reds will need a big performance from their front three of Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah if they are going to pick up points in Paris. Firmino, Mane and Salah have combined for 21 goals in all competitions this season.
