DraftKings CFB picks November 30: Build with backs

We have two college football games tonight, so DraftKings has given us a slate! We have the last bit of MACtion of the season with the MAC title game and the other game is the Pac 12 title game. Where should we build?

More from College Football Odds

At first glance, NIU actually has the worst rated of the four defenses on the slate, but I would argue that their defense has played better than Buffalo lately. Both of these feel like low scoring games to me.

The scoring for NCAA football is much the same as it is for the NFL with one notable exception: the super flex! That means aside from the flex position which is RB/WR, you can add another player from any position! Want four running backs? Go right ahead! Five wide receivers? Sure! Two quarterbacks? Of course! Just stay under the salary cap! There is also late swap, which is essential for contests with start times spanning several hours.

DraftKings Quarterback Picks November 30

Top Tier:

I love it when Tyree Jackson is on the slate because he is usually underpriced. He is a strong runner with a big arm and is tough for defenders to bring down since he is bigger than most of them. Think Daunte Culpepper in the UFL. He was the biggest guy on the field. Jackson usually is as well. For me, Jackson is the clear number on play on the slate at QB, and maybe overall.

Middle Tier:

Jason Shelley played well in Utah’s last three games in relief of Tyler Huntley. In the Apple Cup, we saw what that Washington defense could do, especially in conditions favorable to them. This is going to be a defensive battle, but Shelley’s running ability moves him up my list a little. Shelley’s one turnover on the season came against Arizona State, the game in which Huntley got injured. He is taking care of the ball and putting up solid numbers.

Marcus Childers is much the same as Shelley, except he isn’t quite as strong of a runner. That’s not to say he doesn’t run. Childers actually runs more. However, I think he’s going to have a tough time against this Buffalo front. The Bulls have a solid defense.

Bargain Shoppers:

Having Jake Browning as the cheapest QB on the slate isn’t a slight on him, it’s respect to the Utah defense. However, I can’t help feeling that Browning has regressed more than progressed throughout his college career. He isn’t the one propelling the Huskies to wins so much as guiding them. As a freshman, he looked like he was going to be one of the more prolific quarterbacks in school history. Now he’s $6,500 against Utah. Browning is still a solid pick, but i wouldn’t use him as my only QB.

DraftKings Running Back Picks November 30

Top Tier:

The Huskies have hitched their sled to Myles Gaskin down the stretch and let him go. He has 72.9 DraftKings points over the last two games and is over 100 in the last three. He finally looks healthy after missing three games in the middle of the Pac 12 season. Utah has a good run defense, but that hasn’t stopped Gaskin before. He topped the century mark against Stanford and Washington State in that stretch. Both are in the top 50 of run defense.

Middle Tier:

Jaret Patterson is capable of big games, but probably not here. He has struggled against good run defenses, which NIU has. I tend to think the Bulls will run more with Jackson than Patterson in this game. The Huskies are allowing just 107 rushing yards per game. Jackson will probably come close to half that, which doesn’t leave much for Patterson.

I would probably trust Tre Harbison more if you are looking to use someone from a MAC backfield, but I wouldn’t make that a priority. Washington has statistically the worst run defense on the slate, and Armand Shyne has topped double digit DraftKings points in all of his starts for Zack Moss.

Bargain Shoppers:

If you are jumping into the world of backups, the water is pretty murky. Kevin Marks gets more chances than anyone else here, and he has actually outproduced Patterson twice in the last three games. The carries don’t necessarily indicate a changing of the guard, and I don’t know how much room Buffalo will actually have to run, but Marks is a good way to minimize risk in this backfield.

Salvon Ahmed ran so well with Gaskin out that he has taken a large role even with Gaskin back. I do think that Washington is going to run the ball a lot in this one, so there will be enough to go around for both Gaskin and Ahmed. I’m not opposed to using both of them, honestly.

DraftKings Wide Receiver Picks November 30

Top Tier:

All four of these teams are pretty much run first offenses, but if you are looking for a receiver, Anthony Johnson is far and away the best option. Especially with how tough the NIU rush defense is, Johnson is going to be a busy guy tonight. He is the only receiver out there tonight who is a big threat for 100 yards, but you’re going to have to pay for him.

Middle Tier:

The middle tier is also pretty barren. K.J. Osborn has only caught one pass in each of the last two games. I much prefer the playmaking ability of Britain Covey here. Utah has even started to get him touches out of the backfield with both Moss and Huntley out. He is the most explosive player the offense has left. Covey will get his touches.

Bargain Shoppers:

If you are looking for a NIU receiver, D.J. Brown has hauled in five catches in each of the last two games. Only Spencer Tears has been better for NIU.

Aaron Fuller came into the season as the best receiver for Washington, but it has been Andre Baccelia that has led the Huskies in receiving over the last two games. Browning threw just 14 passes against Washington State. Half of those went Baccellia’s direction.

I give up on trying to figure out the pecking order with the Utah receivers after Covey. Siaosi Mariner has looked good, but the rest are too inconsistent. However, Samson Nacua has two touchdowns in the last two games. The bad news is those are his only catches over that stretch.
