Fortnite Friday: The final week of Season 6 and the iceberg theory
Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is going on in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any other information you need to know.
Fortnite Friday is a weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multiplayer showdown game, Fortnite: Battle Royale. Almost as soon as we were ready to give up speculation on Season 7, the iceberg hit.
That’s right. There is a giant iceberg floating towards the map and it’s sure to bring a wintery holiday celebration with it for the upcoming season 7. The iceberg looks to be surrounded by a winter storm as well, so we can expect snow to fall on the map (hopefully everywhere).
Obviously, people found a way to get a better look at this oncoming iceberg as well as the small castle that is situated on top of it:
Season 7 is only a week away. For now, let’s focus on finishing up this week’s free and battle pass challenges.
Free challenges
- Build Structures (0/250)
- Visit a Viking ship, a camel and a crashed Battle Bus (0/3)
- Search Chests at Tilted Towers or Paradise Palms (0/7)
The final week of challenges in any given season is usually fairly simple. Epic Games likes to give everyone a relatively easy road to completing the challenges and wrapping up the season and this season is no different.
Building structures and searching chests at Tilted Towers or Paradise Palms are self-explanatory challenges. The viking ship is located on top of the mountain (Valhalla, to some – quadrant B6). The camel is at the edge of the desert area just east of Lucky Landing (quadrant G9). Finally, the battle bus now crashes just west of Lazy Links (E3).
Battle pass challenges
- Place mounted turrets in different matches (0/3)
- Stage 1: Land at Lazy Links (0/1)
- Stage 2: Land at Snobby Shores (0/1)
- Stage 3: Land at Lucky Landing (0/1)
- Stage 4: Land at Lonely Lodge (0/1)
- Stage 5: Land at Salty Springs (0/1)
- Complete vehicle timed trials (0/3)
- Stage 1: Shotgun elimination (0/1)
- Stage 2: Assault rifle elimination (0/1)
- Stage 3: Pistol elimination (0/1)
The mounted turrets. Some are fans, some are not. They are great to have at the end of a game but facing them in a final two showdown will have you screaming for them to be removed from the game. Either way, Epic is pushing these by having you place them in three different matches. Whether you use them after setting them is up to you.
The two staged challenges this week are very simple. Landing and eliminations. The final challenge of the season that will require any sort of skill/thinking is the vehicle timed trials. You can find those at the locations shown on the map below. Your best bet is to use the quad to complete these, as it’s boost is faster than the ATK.
Update v6.31 patch notes and new LTMs
Epic/Legendary pump shotgun: This new class of pump shotgun is basically what the original pump shotgun was, minus the insane range. Most of you may not remember that time, so think of it as a cross between the pump and the heavy shotgun.
Team Rumble LTM: This new LTM is one we’ve been waiting for for some time now. This is basically the Fortnite equivalent to Call of Duty’s team deathmatch. The first team to 100 eliminations wins. Respawns are in effect and there is a ton of loot, ammo and material boosts. This is a great place to work on any facet of your game that may be lacking.
High Explosives LTM: As expected, the all-explosives LTM is back for the final week of the season, likely due to high demand coming from week 9’s explosive-based challenges. Use this to clean last week’s challenges or to have some fun between serious matches.
Gifting items: You can now gift skins or items to your friends. Try it out in your inventory area. ‘Tis the season for giving!

Elimination of the week
Let’s have a look at the new epic pump shotgun in action. In close range or end-game situations, this will be a must-carry item for the load-out.
