The Alabama Crimson Tide nearly fell to the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game. Then, the Dawgs squandered it away. Twitter reacts.
Nick Saban nearly got emotional when talking about Jalen Hurts, and how could he not?
The senior quarterback who was the SEC Player of the Year just two years ago had to take a backseat to Tua Tagovailoa this season. It was rumored before the season that he would transfer from ‘Bama, but, he decided to stay, and Crimson Tide fans are so grateful that he did.
Because Hurts put a hurting on the Georgia Bulldogs.
Alabama needed every bit of Hurt’s all-world talent and a horrible play call from Georgia head coach Kirby Smart, to lift ‘Bama to a 35-28 win in the SEC Championship Game and, in the process, secure their place as the team to beat in this year’s College Football Playoff.
You know what else the Crimson Tide did tonight?
They officially knocked their rivals out of the College Football Playoff conversation.
That’s what a horrific play call, at the wrong time, will do for a program that was on the precipice of knocking off their hated rival. Now, there will be a ton of questions that need to be answered in Athens, but Twitter may have already answered them; and with that, here are some golden reactions from tonight’s thrilling SEC Championship Game.
Enjoy.
Alabama wins the #SECChampionship. That was an awesome game. Jalen Hurts for Heisman

Ugh. My heart just broke twice in a matter of 5 hours. #Big12Championship #SECChampionship

We all said Jalen Hurts wasn’t a passer.
— Marty Smith (@MartySmithESPN) December 2, 2018
Every one of us.
Yes the winning touchdown was a run.
But let it be said: Jalen Hurts passed Alabama to the SEC Championship in that 4th Quarter tonight against a great Georgia team that played exceptional football.
What a story.
We aren’t saying that now.
I think we’re watching the national championship game.... #SECCHAMPIONSHIP
— Maria Taylor (@MariaTaylor) December 2, 2018
We were saying that. Until Kirby Smart decided to not be Smart. Now, that dream for Georgia is over for the season.
JESUS ALERT: I fully expect Kirby Smart’s name to be cursed tonight by a lot of conservative Georgian evangelicals. Grant him peace, mercy, comfort and a pair of noise reduction headphones.

Amen.
Impressive Georgia, impressive.
— Will Cain (@willcain) December 2, 2018
But...
1. Alabama
2. Clemson (pending)
3. ND
4. OU
An abysmal collapse there by Georgia. They played down the stretch like a team who thought they just needed to keep the score close to advance to the playoffs. I wouldn’t mind seeing them bounced.

This will be a collapse that will haunt Georgia until next fall.
Georgia y’all gotta stop winning the East and give someone else a chance to lose to Bama

Now that Alabama has a Quarterback Controversy, and Tua has lost some confidence, I feel a little better about my Oklahoma Sooners' chances vs the Tide. Then again, Georgia's defense is 10 times better than OU's.
— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) December 2, 2018
Actually, I’m tempting to side with Skip Bayless here, and that, people, is a rarity.
Don't believe Alabama's dead unless you check the corpse's pulse, see the coffin lowered into the ground, and get a notarized death certificate

Hollywood couldn't have written a better script than what Jalen Hurts just did https://t.co/tHn4z9cJuy
— Patrick Schmidt (@PatrickASchmidt) December 2, 2018
Nope, they sure couldn’t.
