Middle Tennessee has already defeated UAB by 24 points. Can the Blazers make this rematch in the Conference USA championship game competitive?

The end of November wasn’t exactly great for the UAB Blazers. After a 9-1 start to the year, UAB had locked up their spot in the Conference USA championship game and was in prime position to end the season with a 10-2 record. All the Blazers had to do was split their final two games: a trip to College Station to face Texas A&M and a trip to Murfreesboro to play Middle Tennessee. UAB lost both of those games by an average margin of 22.5 points.

The loss to the Aggies wasn’t totally unexpected, though UAB fans will likely find it pretty disappointing. It’s the loss to Middle Tennessee that should really be concerning for the Blazers. With the Blue Raiders winning the first matchup between these two teams, Middle Tennessee gets to host the Conference USA championship game. That means that UAB gets to take another trip right back up to Murfreesboro, Tennessee and hope that this game won’t be like the last one.

UAB is going to have to make this trip back to Middle Tennessee and it might have to do it without starting running back Spencer Brown. Brown has been the focal point of UAB’s offense all year, but he only had one carry against the Blue Raiders last week. It looks like he might be dinged up and that could be a serious issue for the Blazers.

On the other sideline, Middle Tennessee’s Brent Stockstill is having an incredibly efficient year at quarterback. He’s completing a career-high 71.1 percent of his passes and has thrown for 2841 yards and 26 touchdowns against just 6 interceptions all season.

Prediction: If Spencer Brown isn’t able to play, UAB is going to be limited in what it can do offensively and it’ll have to find a way to score. Middle Tennessee’s Brent Stockstill should have another solid performance and UAB will need to keep up with him if it hopes to win. This game will likely be closer than last week’s meeting between these two teams, but Middle Tennessee should still come out on top.

Score: Middle Tennessee 24, UAB 14
