DraftKings NBA Picks December 1: Should we avoid Curry?

There are seven NBA games tonight, but only six of them make the main DraftKings NBA slate. If you want Bucks or Knicks, you have to play the showdown slate. The Bulls, Cavs, Celtics, Wizards, Pistons, Nets, and Rockets are all on back to backs, so be alert in those games just in case.

More from DFS

Last night I went back to two key lineups, but both of my value plays in Arcidiacono and Markieff Morris failed miserably, so I was nowhere near the money line of 257.5 DraftKings points. Even my lineup with Embiid and Davis wasn’t all that close.

The winning lineup was just 336.25 DraftKings points, which is pretty much unheard of on an 11 game slate. He build around Gasol, Beard, and Vucevic, but his value picks of Jaren Jackson, DeMarre Carroll, and Marcus Smart are what won this for him.

On a smaller slate, I am leaning towards my two or three lineup approach tonight.

DraftKings NBA Point Guards:

Best Bets:

Stephen Curry ($9,000): Curry is returning tonight, and there are about 126 reasons to ease off of him. However, if the Warriors aren’t limiting Curry, there is no reason to lay off of him here. If Curry is completely healthy, he is still the best shooter in the game. $9,000 is a bargain if Curry is in form. However, this is a GPP move only. There’s a lot of risk here even in the Warriors say he isn’t limited.

John Wall ($8,900): It’s kind of tough to use Wall after back to back disappointing games, but this is the Nets. You know, the team that Mike Conley trashed last night. There is a ton of potential here for Wall. The Wizards could be cautious with Wall, or if they are still actively trying to trade him, they’ll run him until he drops. That said, Wall has played just 51 minutes over the last two games, both lopsided losses. The Knicks should be about the Wizards’ speed right now.

Honorable Mention:

Chris Paul ($7,900): Paul looked good in his return to action last night, turning in 39.75 points in 28 minutes of court time. The Rockets were able to rest Paul in the blowout, so I kind of think that they wont hold him out of the back to back. However, this is a situation that needs to be monitored. If Paul is out, you have to drop everything and play Harden. Otherwise, I wont touch him.

Spencer Dinwiddie ($6,300): Wall has always been a defense optional guard, so the fact that Dinwiddie rocked the Wizards for 49 DraftKings points in the first meeting is no surprise. However Dinwiddie hasn’t been over 5x value in the last two games. It can be excused against Utah and Memphis, and I think that keeps ownership down. I like him in this matchup tonight.

Dark Horses:

Reggie Jackson ($5,600): I’m less thrilled with this now that Curry is back, but Jackson is playing at a high level right now. He has at least 5x value in four straight and seven of his last eight games. Ish Smith is still poaching his share of minutes, so the upside on Jackson isn’t all that high, but he is a great cash game play right now.

Darren Collison ($5,400): Someone is finally starting to pull away with the PG job in Indiana that just opened up indefinitely since Oladipo is – big shocker – more hurt than the team was letting on. Collison has 99.25 DraftKings points over the last three games, and has a very nice matchup with the Kings here. I much prefer the consistency of Collison over the volatility of Joseph and Aaron Holiday.

My pick: Dinwiddie(PG); Jackson(PG), Collison(G)

DraftKings NBA
NEW YORK, NY – MARCH 21: D’Angelo Russell #1 of the Brooklyn Nets reacts in the second quarter against the Charlotte Hornets during their game at Barclays Center on March 21, 2018 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. DraftKings NBA Shooting Guards:

Best Bet:

D’Angelo Russell ($7,200): The volatility with Russell is still there, but he has taken at least 25 shots in three straight games, channeling his inner Allen Iverson. With that kind of volume, Russell is pretty much assured value at this price whether he is making the shots or not. Russell is going to be a popular starting block tonight because there is tremendous upside if he can hit 40% of those shots (he only has once in the three games).

Honorable Mention:

Eric Gordon ($6,100): The price on Gordon is a bit offputting, but Gordon was still hitting everything off the bench last night. With the Bulls promising to be another blowout win for Houston, we could see Gordon get some garbage minutes and pour in some more points. Still, if his shot goes cold, you are going to come away from this disappointed.

Buddy Hield ($5,700): This takes a leap of faith since Bogdan is playing so well, but this is a great matchup for Hield and he is still starting for now. The Clippers held Hield without a triple for the first time this year, but he still hit double digits in scoring for the 17th straight time. If Hield’s shot starts falling, his price is low enough that he could be a big time value play.

Dark Horses:

Bogdan Bogdanovic ($5,500): The Kings are having a hard time keeping Bogdan on the bench since he is clearly outplaying Hield right now. They may both have good games here, but I’m definitely riding the hot hand of Bogdan no matter how I decide to approach Hield.

Reggie Bullock ($3,800): Bullock is rarely a part of the offense, but when he is, he crushes value at his price. Bullock has been over 5x value in six of the last nine games, so this could be a situation where he is working his way into the fold a little more. I would only use Bullock in GPP formats right now, and only if you are really strapped for cash. There isn’t a lot of sure value picks tonight.

My pick: Russell(SG), Bogdanovic(G); Bogdanovic(SG)

DraftKings NBA
BOSTON, MA – NOVEMBER 16: Kyle Lowry #7 and Kawhi Leonard #2 of the Toronto Raptors look on during the first half against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on November 16, 2018 in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Tim Bradbury/Getty Images) /

DraftKings NBA Small Forwards:

Best Bet:

Kawhi Leonard ($9,600): I’m way off of Durant tonight with Curry back and him going against the team that has allowed the fewest fantasy points to small forwards this year. This looks like the time to move to Kawhi, who has at least 48 DraftKings points in three of the last four and five of the last seven. Cleveland doesn’t have anyone that can stop Kawhi, much like Golden State on Thursday.

Robert Covington ($6,500): Covington has put up two big games in a row now, and there is some hope that he can keep this going against Boston. Covington has eight triples over the last two games to go with his trademark defense. The Timberwolves are going to play Covington big minutes, so there is a good chance that he still hits value here, thought it’s becoming harder for the price.

Honorable Mention:

Justin Holiday ($5,600): The obvious question here is if we should fade Holiday. The answer is no, not this one. Other Holiday’s sure, but Justin is still a strong play. Even on a night when the Bulls were a total disaster, Holiday almost hit 6x value. This wont be easy against Houston, but I still like him to hit a minimum of 5x value for the fifth time in six games.

Bojan Bogdanovic ($5,200): Okay, I wont be a jerk like DraftKings and put the flying Bogdanovic brothers (they aren’t really) like DraftKings does. Bogdan is the hot one right now, but Bojan is by far the more consistent of the two. If you are playing a cash game, use them both. In GPP’s, Bogdan is the better pick.

Dark Horses:

Danny Green ($4,500): Green has been putting up good numbers over the last couple games, and he took it to Cleveland in the first meeting. Green is about the fourth option on offense for the Raptors, but he has done well at producing across all categories. There isn’t a lot of upside here, but name someone at this price that does have a lot.

Alec Burks ($3,500): Burks was a monster in his Cavs debut, racking up 32.5 DraftKings points in 26 minutes of court time. This was a welcome sight for a Cleveland team that needs someone to score for them. Burks is going to be chalk tonight, but if you need a value play, I don’t see how you move off of this and hit the cash line.

My pick: Leonard(SF); Holiday(SF), Leonard(PF), Burks(F)

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – NOVEMBER 19: Domantas Sabonis #11 of the Indiana Pacers celebrates against the Utah Jazz at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on November 19, 2018 in Indianapolis, Indiana. DraftKings NBA Power Forwards:

Best Bets:

Domantas Sabonis ($7,600): Sabonis apparently has a sore back from dominating the Lakers on Thrusday. Hey, I’m not complaining. Sabonis spearheaded by late slate takedown on Thursday. If he is in the lineup, we have to play him. Sabonis has at least 45 DraftKings points in three of the last four and four of the last six. The Kings have been pretty horrible up front. If Sabonis is out, this becomes a real smash spot for Turner and Thad.

Jayson Tatum ($6,700): I’m not a huge fan of Parker against the Houston front. For the price it makes more sense to go with Tatum against a Minnesota interior that can’t guard anyone. Unless Minnesota puts Covington on Tatum, Tatum is going to have a big game here. Just make sure to watch the lineups and see if we can discern who is guarding who.

Honorable Mention:

Marvin Bagley ($5,600): Bagley came up big again on Thursday, but left in the fourth with back spasms and didn’t return. This is another situation to keep and eye on because Bagley is too cheap for the price against an Indiana front that has not been great defensively. If Bagley plays, I’m saving him a spot.

Otto Porter ($5,600): Porter is supposed to be back with the team tonight. Unfortunately, that means 30% wont chase Oubre again tonight. However, there is value to be had with Porter against the Nets. I don’t really trust Morris with Jeff Green back in the fold. If you want to attack the Nets forwards, Porter is really the only safe pick. Everything else is a crapshoot.

Dark Horses:

Thaddeus Young ($4,700): Young continues to play well up front for the Pacers. A few more minutes have trickled down with Oladipo still out. Young has been outstanding on defense during his court time. He has an amazing ten steals over the last four games. Indiana has had trouble keeping him off the court, which is just fine with us bargain hunters.

Jonas Jerebko ($4,100): Jerebko was a monster against the Raptors on Thursday. With Draymond still out, there is a great chance that Jerebko gets the start at the four again tonight. Detroit is massive up front, but neither of them is a lock down defender. There is solid upside for Jerebko here if he is going to play 30 minutes again.

DeMarre Carroll ($3,400): Where did that come from? Carroll hadn’t played more than 30 minutes all season long, then he plays 39 last night with a staggering 42.5 DraftKings points. It’s no wonder that a 1.9% owned Carroll was in the winning lineup. To me, the Nets’ rotations up front are too volatile, but if you don’t mind taking a shot, Carroll could be huge again.

My pick: Sabonis(PF), Young(F); N/A

DraftKings NBA
ATLANTA, GA – NOVEMBER 09: Andre Drummond #0 of the Detroit Pistons reacts after a basket against the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena on November 9, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. DraftKings NBA Center

Best Bet:

Andre Drummond ($9,400): Blake could have his hands full with the Warriors tonight, but they don’t have anyone with the size to deal with Drummond right now. Drummond has at least 55 DraftKings points in three of the last four games. It should be four of five when the dust settles here.

More from FanSided

Honorable Mention:

Clint Capela ($7,800): So what if the Rockets have two all world guards? Capela still put up a staggering 55 DraftKings points in just 30 minutes last night. The Spurs have to be better up front than the Bulls are. This is going to be a long night for Chicago.

Myles Turner ($5,900): Even if Sabonis plays, I’m still on Turner here. His production hasn’t been all that consistent this year, but this is a situation where whoever Indiana puts in the front court could have a big game.

Dark Horses:

Jarrett Allen ($5,400): With Dwight Howard now out of the picture, the Wizards are possible even weaker up front than the Nets are. I love Allen in this spot tonight. He put up 39 DraftKings points against the Wizards with Howard in there earlier this year. This could be a monster for Allen at a very low price.

Thomas Bryant ($3,300): Carter isn’t going to do to Capela what he did to Drummond last night, so I’m looking to Bryant for value here. Bryant had 24.25 DraftKings points in 19 minutes last night, his best output and highest minutes total of the season so far. With Howard out for a while, there should be more where this came from. He could have a huge game for the price against the Nets. Everyone else but Towns has.

My pick: Allen(C) Bryant(UTIL); Drummond(C), Allen(UTIL)
