Tight Ends

Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs @ Oakland Raiders – $7000

That makes it four. The Kansas City Chiefs have a player inside the top five in all four offensive categories. The team also has three of the top priced options. Kelce is the clear cut top option at tight end with Zach Ertz not on the main slate. As the athletic middle of the field target for Patrick Mahomes, Kelce is having another big season. A great matchup awaits with an Oakland defense that gives up the third most touchdown catches to tight ends. Kelce has historically struggled against Oakland but this is the first time he gets them with Mahomes.

George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks – $5900

It is to the point now where I feel bad for George Kittle. The guy is clearly one of the more talented tight ends in the league but just has not had a chance to have a stable quarterback situation. When his quarterback is playing even mediocre, Kittle is an elite option. With the play of NIck Mullens and C.J. Beathard being so inconsistent, so has Kittle stat lines. This week gets on easier against a Seahawks defense that allows the least amount of yards to tight ends and only three touchdowns on the season. Kittle is only an opportunity play at best this weekend.

Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots vs Minnesota Vikings – $5400

Once seen as a no-brainer lock every week as the top tight end, it’s been a rough season for Rob Gronkowski. Despite catching a touchdown pass last week, he still looks like a shell of his former self. This weekend the team will need him against a tough Vikings defense. Minnesota has only allowed three tight end touchdowns all season but have been about average in yards allowed to the position. This game will feature some points, it’s just hard to say if Gronkowski will be involved enough to get in on the action.

Jared Cook, Oakland Raiders vs Kansas City Chiefs – $4700

Continuing in his surprise season for the Raiders, Jared Cook comes in as the fourth highest priced option. Cook is the fifth highest scoring tight end on the season. Oakland really does not have much else in the passing game, which centers around Cook. Now he plays a Chiefs defense that ranks third in points per game to tight ends. Oakland will likely be throwing a bunch so game flow and opportunity will be in Cook’s favor.

David Njoku, Cleveland Browns @ Houston Texans – $4300

I said last week that David Njoku will continue to be on the value list until he is priced correctly. It looks like DraftKings got the memo and now Njoku is the fifth highest priced tight end. The athletic playmaker had a crazy impressive touchdown last week against the Bengals. Now he will look to make another trip to the end zone against the Texans. Houston’s defense is talented in the front four but struggle to cover tight ends, ranking sixth in points per game to the position. Njoku is another strong play this weekend, despite not being a “value”.

Value Tight Ends

Eric Ebron, Indianapolis Colts @ Jacksonville Jaguars – $4200

Eric Ebron is the sixth priced tight end but still represents value this weekend. With the news that Jack Doyle is headed to the injured reserve, Ebron ‘s opportunity sky rockets. In the games that Doyle has missed Ebron is averaging double-digit targets. The Colts offense is rolling and Ebron is the primary target in the red zone. Despite their reputation, Jacksonville’s defense actually gives up the third most touchdowns to tight ends this season. Ebron is a great play at almost $3000 cheaper than the top option.

Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings @ New England Patriots – $3600

The Minnesota Vikings offense has a lot of mouths to feed, but it may be at it’s best when tight end Kyle Rudolph is in the mix. Rudolph had his best game of the year since Week 3 in Sunday night’s win against the Packers. He will look to continue that strong play with a trip to New England. The Patriots have allowed a touchdown to a tight end in six of seven games and are allowing the third most points per game to the position. Rudolph, if he gets even a small opportunity, will see a big week.
