Heisman Trophy 2018: Who got snubbed?
The three finalists for the 2018 Heisman Trophy were announced last night, but which players were deserving of an invitation that didn’t get one?
The top three players of the 2018 college football season will be at the Playstation Theater in New York City on Saturday, Dec. 8 where one of them will be named the 84th Heisman Trophy winner. Those three players, of course, are Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Kyler Murray and Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Dwayne Haskins, as was announced on Monday night.
This marks the fourth time in five years — the 2016 season being the lone exception — that only three finalists have been named for the Heisman Trophy. Last year, as Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield captured the award, he was joined by Lamar Jackson and Bryce Love in New York City. As was the case last year, there is no arguing the merit of the three players, Tagovailoa, Murray and Haskins, that were honored with an invitation.
While that may be so, there are always players that are snubbed from being finalists, to varying degrees, of course. No, they may not be viable candidates to win the award, especially the case this year as it seems to truly be a two-man race at the top between Tua and Murray. However, they are players deserving of recognition for their accomplishments in a given season by at least being invited.
We call these players snubs, the ones left out of the Heisman Trophy finalist mix for one reason or another. These players made a compelling case to be among the best players of the 2018 college football season, but were not recognized in regards to receiving an invitation. However, we’re going to recognize a few of them here.
These three players are your Heisman Trophy snubs for 2018, the trio that may not be finalists, but certainly made their mark on this year.
