By Shaun Evans
Welcome back to another “Lock Play” article! Hope all of the articles here at FantasyCPR helped you take down your daily contest. We’re back on a Tuesday with a 5 game NBA DraftKings slate so lets dive in and see who we should lock in on!
NBA DraftKings Point Guard
Donovan Mitchell vs. San Antonio Spurs | Point Total: 214
Salary: $7,900
Donovan Mitchell may be in a sophomore slump this year but he still has certain match-ups that are hard to pass up in your NBA DraftKings contests. Tonight he gets to face the San Antonio Spurs who aren’t the best at defending the point guard position. The Spurs allow 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assist to the point guard position. In his sophomore season, Mitchell is averaging 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assist which is nothing to be drooling over.

In his previous five games he has scored 45.5, 12.25, 43.75, 48, and 30.25 fantasy points but the 12.25 fantasy points was in the game where he only played 12 minutes and minutes are not a concern with Mitchell. He has a usage rate of 29% this season and is averaging 34 fantasy points per game, exceeding his usage rate. Both Utah and San Antonio average 102 possessions per game which gives this game the low point total but don’t let that steer you away from Donovan Mitchell.
NBA DraftKings Shooting Guard
Dwayne Wade vs. Orlando Magic | Point Total: 208.5
Salary: $5,500
Dwayne Wade may be in his final year in the NBA but he is not showing it all. Coming in with a salary of $5,500 and his consistency of play, we can not pass him up. He gets to face the Orlando Magic who are allowing shooting guards 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assist. In his final season, Wade is averaging 15 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assist. Wade has scored 22, 52.75, 25.75, 33.75, and 35.25 fantasy points in his last five games and has a usage rate of 25%, leading the guards on the Miami Heat.
This game also has a low point total with 208.5 total points due to the fact that the Miami Heat have a 105 possession per game average and the Orlando Magic have a 102 possessions per game average. Knowing it will be a slow paced game, Wade will still find his way to hit value.
NBA DraftKings Small Forward
Harrison Barnes vs. Portland Trailblazers | Point Total: 220
Salary: $6,600
With the second highest point total on this 6 game slate, Harrison Barnes is in for another good match-up. Averaging 18 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assist on the season, Barnes has returned value in 4 of his last 5 games. Scoring 38.25, 34.25, 19.25, 43.75, and 44.75 fantasy points in his previous five games. While there still isn’t official ruling on Luka Doncic returning tonight, there has been only positive news since Sunday.
Doncic has a slight higher usage rate then Barnes who is being used 23.4% while Doncic is 24.9%. Portland is allowing Small Forwards to average 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Barnes is averaging 30 minutes or more as the Dallas Mavericks are playing him as much as they can, giving him the opportunity to exceed his salary price and value.
NBA DraftKings Power Forward
Aaron Gordon vs. Miami Heat | Point Total: 208.5
Salary: $6,900
Aaron Gordon hasn’t been his former self this year but he has a nice match-up with the Miami Heat even though it is a low point total. Aaron Gordon’s usage rate is only 21% with the Magic, being just the third highest used forward. He’s averaging 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assist so far this season.
Miami is allowing Power Forwards 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assist on the season so far. The pace between the two teams are also low as previous stated but Gordon has a low salary with major upside to return or exceed his value. Gordon gets the minutes, the Magic just need to get the ball rolling for Gordon to really dominate.
NBA DraftKings Center
Nikola Vucevic vs. Miami Heat | Point Total: 208.5
Salary: $9,000
One of the top centers on the fantasy basketball season, Vucevic is in play once again against the Miami Heat and he’s just priced at $9,000. In his previous five games he has scored 27, 71.75, 57.75, 45, and 53.75 fantasy points and is averaging 45.7 fantasy points on the season. He has a nice usage rate of 26% with the Orlando Magic which makes him the team leader.
Vucevic does have to face Hassan Whiteside in the paint, which is why the Miami Heat only allow centers to average 20 points and 16 rebounds. While the match-up does look difficult on paper, it’s hard to pass up rostering Vucevic. You can go with either center in this game or you an look at LaMarcu Aldrigde and possibly Willie Cauley-Stein.
