Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Picks – Week 14
By Bill Pivetz
With the fantasy football playoffs starting for most leagues, here are some players worth adding off your Fantasy Football Waiver Wire.
With the Philadelphia Eagles win on Monday night, 13 weeks of fantasy football are in the books. That means the fantasy playoffs are upon us and it is time to improve our squads via the Fantasy Football Waiver Wire.
There were some breakout performances and injuries that will lead themselves to more playing time for a few players. With everyone off the bye, there is no reason to not start your studs despite a bad match-up. However, deciding between Player A and B for your flex could mean the difference of a championship and the consolation prize.
In this article, I will list a couple of players at each position that should be owned for Week 14 and possibly beyond. The ownership percentages will reflect ESPN and Yahoo leagues. I will try to pick players with less than 50 percent ownership but at this point in the season, that’s tough to come by.
Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Picks – Week 14 – Quarterbacks
Most owners have their stud quarterback ready to go for the playoffs. But if you’re playing the matchups with guys like Matthew Stafford and Dak Prescott, you may find more success on the waiver wire.
Marcus Mariota
Mariota is dealing with a hand injury, so that is something you want to keep an eye on. However, during his Week 13 game, he threw for 282 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Mariota also rushed four times for 43 yards.
Corey Davis, Taywan Taylor, Jonnu Smith and Anthony Firkser are his top receiving options. Mariota has two touchdowns in four of his last five games and faces a Jacksonville defense that has allowed multiple touchdowns in three of their last five. He’s a QB2 this week.
Josh Allen
Allen has scored at least 25 points in his last two games. While he threw two picks last week, he rushed nine times for 135 yards.
The Buffalo Bills may not have the best offensive weapons, but Allen makes the most of it. Zay Jones had his best game of the season. LeSean McCoy and Isaiah McKenzie caught four passes each. If you think Allen can run again while making good throws, he’s worth an add.
Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Picks – Week 14 – Running Backs
Most of the top scoring running backs are owned in almost all leagues. Finding that one who will score a touchdown is a roll of the dice.
Darren Sproles
Sproles played in his first game since Week 1. He rushed four times for 22 yards and a touchdown. With the issues the Eagles have been having at running back, having Sproles back as a change-of-pace and receiver out of the backfield should yield more playing time.
The Eagles will still rotate Josh Adams and Corey Clement but Sproles will get his. It also helps that he’s on special teams too. The Eagles face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 14, a defense that’s allowed 19.7 fantasy points per game to opposing running backs.
Chris Thompson
Thompson also returned to the field after missing some time. He rushed three times for just three yards but caught three passes for 18 yards. Not including Adrian Peterson‘s 90-yard run, the Washington Redskins could not run the ball.
They were also behind so they had to abandon the run and play catchup. Thompson could get more playing time in Week 14 with Mark Sanchez likely under center. He’s a good option for dump-off passes against a poor New York Giants defense.
Kenneth Dixon
The Baltimore Ravens played Alex Collins on the IR. Gus Edwards has been holding his own at running back but the Ravens aren’t known for using just one guy to carry the ball.
Dixon played in his first game since Week 1, racking up eight carries for 37 yards and a catch for six yards. The Kansas City Chiefs allow 5.0 yards per carry, so all of the Ravens running backs could get involved. As long as the Baltimore defense keeps this game close, Dixon will have his opportunity.
Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Picks – Week 14 – Wide Receivers
Adam Humphries
I toted Humphries as an add in both season-long and DFS leagues recently. He’s scored a touchdown in three straight games and five in his last five games. Jameis Winston is targeting him as much as Mike Evans.
DeSean Jackson is almost a non-factor in this offense. Chris Godwin also got his in Week 13 but I think that won’t happen again. Humphries and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face the New Orleans Saints, which should lead to another big game.
Curtis Samuel
Samuel, along with D.J. Moore, has broken out in recent weeks. Devin Funchess also scored but hasn’t had more than four catches in a game since Week 7. Samuel has 13 catches for 160 yards and two touchdowns in his last three games.
With Christian McCaffrey the focus for opposing defenses, Cam Newton should be able to target Samuel and the other receivers against the Cleveland Browns secondary. The loss of Greg Olsen will help everyone else.
Bruce Ellington
With Marvin Jones on the IR, Ellington is getting more playing time. He has at least six catches in his last three games while racking up 115 yards.
Defenses will try to shut down Kenny Golladay, leaving Ellington to catch a lot of passes. The Arizona Cardinals have allowed seven touchdowns to opposing wide receivers. Patrick Peterson will likely be on Golladay, so Ellington should be the eye of Stafford.
Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Picks – Week 14 – Tight Ends and Defenses
Ian Thomas
As I said, Greg Olsen is done for the season., Thomas will likely be the fill-in as the Carolina Panthers tight end. He caught five passes for 46 yards.

The Browns are bad against the tight end, allowing an average of 14.1 points per game.
Levine Toilolo
What I said about Ellington can be applied to Toilolo. He caught for passes for 90 yards in Week 13. He scored the most PPR points for the Detroit Lions. While the Cardinals are strong against the tight end, Stafford will target Toilolo more than previous games.
Titans D/ST
Despite two negative scores in their last three games, facing the Jacksonville Jaguars offense should get them back on the right track.
Giants D/ST
Mark. Sanchez. That’s it.
All of these players are available in at least 50 percent of ESPN and Yahoo leagues. Depending on your roster settings, starting one of these players could push you past the first round of the playoffs. Place those waiver claims in and good luck.
