3. Madison Bumgarner

There are serious doubts around MLB as to whether or not the Giants are actually willing to deal Bumgarner this winter. It’s an absolute certainty that Cashman will make a call to see if San Francisco is interested in letting their ace go.

Bumgarner isn’t throwing as hard as he did earlier in his career, but he’s still getting hitters out at an impressive clip. Handing him a long-term contract extension next winter will carry some risk, but he’s got the sort of pitching resume that savvy general managers like to bet on.

He struggled with injury in 2018, but he still managed to throw 129.2 innings for the Giants with an ERA of 3.26. That’s not all that different from the workload James Paxton carried for Seattle last season. The point here is that Bumgarner’s durability shouldn’t be a concern.

In the short-term, Bumgarner would probably be the most expensive pitcher on this list to acquire. The Yankees might have to part with Miguel Andujar and a premium prospect like Estevan Florial to tempt the Giants into making a deal. That high price makes Bumgarner moving to the Bronx unlikely, but not impossible.
