By Shaun Evans
Hey guys! Welcome back to another edition of NBA “Lock Plays” Tonight’s NBA DraftKings Thursday slate features just three games so we’ll have to find the plays that are going to score and not be complete chalk. Lets dive in and also don’t forget all the amazing articles that are here at FantasyCPR which is completely free!
NBA DraftKings Point Guard
Damian Lillard vs. Phoenix Suns | Point Total: 216.5
Salary: $10,100
Coming in with the hot hand and possibly short handed with C.J. McCollum being questionable (news to watch for), Damian Lillard should continue his hot streak. While he is $10,100, he isn’t the most expensive point guard on the slate while having a nice match-up. Lillard is averaging 27 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assist on the season while averaging 35 minutes per game. He has a usage rate of 29% so far this season also. In his previous five games, he has scored 43.5, 66.5, 29.25, 61, and 57 fantasy points. The Phoenix Suns are allowing point guards to average 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assist per game, giving Lillard the chance to post a double double tonight. Both, Portland and Phoenix, post an average of 103 possessions per game giving this game a low points total but that is the trend of this small 3 game slate. Also while we’re trying to avoid the NBA Draftkings chalk, Lillard may be the only one we lock in.

NBA DraftKings Shooting Guard
De’Anthony Melton vs. Portland Trailblazers | Point Total: 216.5
Salary: $4,200
We already know what to expect with the pace of this game and how it should end up but that gives De’Anthony Melton major upside. While the Phoenix Suns can’t get any worse, they can only get better, right? Melton had a career night Tuesday against the Sacramento Kings who blew them out but he posted 21 points and 5 assist in 23 minutes off of the bench. He should be able to do that once again tonight or very close to it. There isn’t too much to go off besides playing the hot hand and trying to get the upper-hand in the competition.Portland is allowing shooting guards to average 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assist. Given the chance, if Phoenix plays their cards right, Melton can have another career night.
NBA DraftKings Top Forward Play
Gordon Hayward vs. New York Knicks | Point Total: 217.5
Salary: $6,100
While it’s hard to gauge when or how long Gordon Hayward will play any given night, there’s a good chance he performs well. In his first back to back game, a major plus sign, he played for 30 minutes while dropping 30 points and 8 assist, putting up 58.25 fantasy points. Now will he do it again? Probably not but he’s on the upward trend. The Boston Celtics do allow small forwards to average 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assist per game making this another good night possibly for Hayward. Another game where the point total is low due to the pace of both teams because Boston only averages 103 possessions per game while the Knicks average 104. But that’s the trend of the night like I previously mentioned.
NBA DraftKings Center
Clint Capela vs. Utah Jazz | Point Total: 217.5
Salary: $8,000
Another player with the hot hand is the Houston Rockets big man, Clint Capela. He has exceeded value in his past three games while hitting his mark in the second one of those three and gets another opportunity tonight against the Utah Jazz. He is averaging a double double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while the Utah Jazz are allowing centers to average 22 points and 14 rebounds. His usage rate isn’t the highest since he plays with James Harden and Chris Paul but the big man rotation just isn’t there to take away from him. The Jazz play at a pace of 103 possessions per game while the Houston Rockets play at a pace of 101 possessions per game. While none of these games have the exciting high scoring possibility, we’re still in for a treat.
