4. Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia

Jake Fromm was not supposed to be the star quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs, at least he wasn’t when he took over the job early in the 2017 season. When Jacob Eason went down due to injury, though, Fromm took over and never looked back. He led the Bulldogs to the National Championship Game last season and then held onto the job coming into the 2018 season, coming ever so close to leading them to the College Football Playoff once again.

In his sophomore season, the Warner Robins, GA native was able to put forth an effort that was even more impressive than his quite head-turning freshman campaign. The 6-foot-2 signal-caller threw for 2,537 yards while completing 68.4 percent of his throws, raising his efficiency 6.2 percentage points from his freshman season. Fromm also threw 27 touchdowns to just five interceptions on the year.

The Georgia starting quarterback was the most impressive part of the Bulldogs offense all season, which is no slight to the likes of D’Andre Swift and the running backs in Athens, but merely a testament to what the quarterback is capable of. Most importantly, Kirby Smart seemed to realize this more and more at the end of 2018, which can only mean bigger things for Fromm.

Fromm is one of the most talented quarterbacks in all of college football and, though some of his weapons out wide will head to the NFL, he will still have plenty of talented players to assist him. If Smart does indeed buy into Fromm more, he’s capable of answering the call and becoming a Heisman Trophy favorite.
