NHL DFS Man Advantage Saturday December 8th
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Saturday night December the 8th! Tonight is a smaller than usual Saturday with only 8 games on the slate but there will be plenty of action!
I had to do a double take when looking at the projected goal totals when I saw the Penguins and Senators carrying a 7! I have not seen a total that high all season, but it is warranted here with both teams lighting up the score boards and both having trouble keeping the puck out of the net, especially Ottawa. In their last ten games Ottawa has allowed 42 goals (4.2 per game avg), which is big for NHL DFS.
NHL DFS Goalies:
This is a tough slate for goaltenders with zero games currently lower than a 6 for projected goal totals. Going through the games I landed on Roberto Luongo ($7.9K) as my top goaltender for the night. Bobby Lou gets a prime matchup with a Ranger team that just cannot find the net right now.
New York comes in losing 5 of their last 6 and only scoring 12 goals in that stretch. Luongo hasn’t been great, losing 4 of his last 5 starts and allowing 15 goals in those 5 games, but his one win was a shutout of Boston so there is some hope he can turn out a good game.
Adin Hill ($7.8K) has been the most pleasant surprise on this season for the Arizona Coyotes and their fans. In his first 6 games ( 4 starts since he appeared in relief in his first 2 appearances) of the season Hill is an impressive 4-1 with a .957 SV% and a 1.09 GAA.
Hill allowed 2 goals total in his 4 wins and 3 goals to the Capitals on Thursday night in his first loss. Arizona welcomes the Sharks to the desert on Saturday on the second night of a back to back.
Some other options I like are an extremely cheap Pekka Rinne at only $7,600 versus Calgary, and Jimmy Howard at $7,500 against an Islander team that has scored only 8 goals in their last 6 games and have only won 1 game in those 6 games.
NHL DFS Top Individual Players
High Tier –
Alex Ovechkin ($7,500) – Ovechkin has caught fire for the Caps of late netting 8 goals and 5 assists in the teams last 10 games. Ove is tied for the league lead in goals with 21 and is averaging 5.3 FPPG on the season
Brayden Point ($6,800) – Speaking of tied for the league lead in goals, Brayed Point is also tied for the top spot with 21 goals as well. Over his last 10 games Point has 7 goals and a 7 assists and is averaging 5.1 FPPG. Point centers the Lightning’s 2nd line with Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov
Kris Letang ($6,500) – Letang is coming off back to back multi point outings and gets a matchup in what could be the highest scoring game on the slate so we will want to find ways to get as many players from this game into our lineups.
Mid Tier –
Morgan Rielly ($6,100) – I am not a big fan of paying up for D but with the way Letang, and now Rielly, have been playing I might have to look to play a higher priced D man. Rielly comes into Saturday with assists in 4 straight games and collecting 15 FP in those 4 games along with 9 SOG
Anders Lee ($6,000) – Lee comes with goals in 4 straight games and also averaging 5.5 FPPG during his goal streak. Lee plays along side Brock Nelson and Jordan Eberle on the Isles first line as well as on the team’s top PP unit.
Evgeny Dadonov ($5,600) – Dadonov comes into Saturday nights game with the Rangers scoring 4 goals and an assist in his last 5 games while playing over 17 minutes per game on the Panthers second line with Frank Vatrano and Jared McCann
Value Tier –
Ryan Johansen ($4,800) – Johansen is at his lowest price of the season but comes in play as good as he has all year. In the Preds last 3 games he has 1 goal and 3 assists and is averaging 4 FPPG.
Carl Soderberg ($4,600) – Soderberg has scored 3 goals in his last 2 games while also landing 7 SOG . Soderberg plays alongside Matt Nieto and Matt Calvert on the Avs 3rd line and 2nd PP unit.
Jake Gardiner ($4,100) – If you don’t want to pay up for Rielly, Gardiner makes for a very inexpensive playable option as well. Gardiner comes into tonight’s game with 1 goal and 4 assists in his last 3 as well as 14.5 FP.
NHL DFS Line Stacks
I will just quickly give you some of the top line stacks on the night, basically the usual suspects
Colorado 1, Pittsburgh 1/2, Boston 1 , Toronto 1/2
Now, a couple of other stacks that might not be as highly owned as the ones above:
Calgary 1 – Elias Lindholm – Sean Monahan – Johnny Gaudreau: These 3 guys might be one of the most underrated lines in all of hockey. Playing late and out in Western Canada keeps them off peoples radar.
Columbus 1 – Artemi Panarin – Pierre-Luc Dubois – Cam Atkinson: Well, Atkinson’s amazing goal streak has ended, but his 12 game point streak is still very much in tact
Ottawa 2 – Brady Tkachuk – Mark Stone – Colin White: I need to get some exposure to the Senators and this line will give you some salary relief.
