Fantasy Football: NFL Draftkings Value Plays Week 14
By Shaun Evans
Quarterback
Hey guys! We have a nice 13 game slate for the NFL this week and we have already covered the ‘Lock Plays’ of the week. Lets get to digging and find out the value plays for this NFL Draftkings slate that can hit past their values! Nick Mullens versus Denver Broncos
Salary: $4,600
The photo used in this post does no justice for what I’m about to say about Nick Mullens, it’s just a great action shot for what the 49ers season actually looks like to us 49ers fans.
Now Nick Mullens isn’t one of the quarterbacks that we know will get us the value that we want but we may know he has the ceiling to do so. He threw for 414 yards versus the Seattle Seahawks, something that hasn’t been done by a 49ers quarterback in ten years. Now he gets to face the Denver Broncos at home. He has thrown for seven touchdowns and five interceptions already this season. The Broncos are ranked 23rd against the pass, allowing 260 yards per game.
Mullens does get Marquise Goodwin back but Pierre Garcion is still out and will most likely remain out for the rest of the season. But with the rising stock of Dante Pettis, Mullens will still have one of his favorite targets. Last week the two linked up and Pettis had 129 receiving yards with two touchdowns. If Mullens and Pettis are on the same page for the third week then the Broncos will have a tough time on their hands against him and tight end, George Kittle. So while the San Francisco 49ers struggle, Mullens has the chance and ceiling to be a nice value play at the Quarterback position.
Running Back
Adrian Peterson versus New York Giants
Salary: $4,800
Probably the only bright spot of the Washington Redskins right now, Adrian Peterson is running like he isn’t pushing that over the hill mark for his age or career. Last week, Peterson busted out a 90 yard touchdown run while only adding 8 more yards off 8 other carries. While that isn’t much to be excited about, the man can still run.
Adrian Peterson is averaging 16 carries and 71 yards per game. With the changing rotation of quarterbacks in Washington since the Alex Smith injury, they will most likely lean on their running-backs, Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson, more now until they get that situation figured out.
Now the New York Giants are having a pretty decent season when it comes to their defense while their offense can’t figure things out. The Giants are ranked 24th defending the run, allowing running-backs to average 124 yards per game. The Giants also allow running-backs to average 8 receptions for 45 yards in the passing game. While Peterson isn’t used in the passing game like Thompson, he can easily break one off against the Giants, putting his ceiling even higher.
Even with the dual running-back situation in Washington, Adrian Peterson has the talent and chances to exceed his value if things don’t get out of hand and they have to play catch up. His salary helps make room for a top running back like Christian McCaffrey, Ezekiel Elliott and Alvin Kamara who all have a nice match-up.
Wide Receiver
Antonio Callaway versus Carolina Panthers
Salary: $3,900
While my “Lock Plays” article already has one cheap option with Dante Pettis versus the Denver Broncos, lets add one more just in case we’re looking to stack top running-backs or wide receivers in the WR1 and Flex positions.
The Cleveland Browns are a confusing team as a whole this season as Baker Mayfield came in during week 4 and Hue Jackson had to pack his bags and leave. While their season has been all over the place, Antonio Callaway has been a beneficiary of it all and Jarvis Landry has been the most frustrating player of their season.
Callaway has had two straight weeks of returning value with his play, scoring 10.4 fantasy points last week and 16.2 fantasy points the week before that. Now while he isn’t the over the top receiver, he is someone who can return his value and save some salary for you while you roster top receivers also.
Now the Carolina Panthers are ranked 22nd in pass defense, allowing 258 yards per game. The Panthers also give up around the same yardage to both the number one and number two receivers, allowing 68 yards and 64 yards. So if the Cleveland Browns can get the momentum rolling in this game and not have to play catch up, we should see a shootout which will raise the stock and chances for Antonio Callaway.
The main component besides Baker Mayfield is Nick Chubb and his running game. The man is facing a killer defense against the run and if the Browns can’t get that department going, Callaway may just be a guy standing, waiting for a junk time touchdown. Now that isn’t a bad thing but the chances of him getting the looks during junk time are pretty slim. If you don’t trust Dante Pettis with Nick Mullens and the San Francisco 49ers, Callaway is the way to go to save salary with some positive upside on value.
Tight End
Mark Andrews versus Kansas City Chiefs
Salary: $2,800
While we stay to the plan of exploiting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense with tight ends, this week has to be a little different. The New Orleans Saints face the Buccaneers but we have no clue on who will get the looks at the tight end position as they rotate through three different ones. But that’s where Mark Andrews of the Baltimore Ravens comes in.
Andrews is averaging 32 yards per game but has only found the end-zone twice this season. He does get the targets though with about 5 per game. Andrews also has a nice catch percentage with 70% so if he’s open and gets it thrown his way, he’ll most likely catch it. The only downside for Andrews is that he has only hit 10 fantasy points once this season, something that can easily turn anyone off of playing him.
The rookie has a nice price tag for this game which would free up room to roster a top wide receiver or two with a nice running-back or vice versus of two nice running-backs with a top wide receiver. While Kansas City Chiefs are known for their high power offense, their defense slacks but it’s okay. They ranked dead last against the pass, allowing close to three hundred yards per game. That’s just one positive sign to roster Mark Andrews or any Baltimore Ravens receiver. But when it comes to defending the tight end position, the Chiefs allow them to average 9 receptions for 80 yards per game. That right there is what we’re looking for since we can’t play a Saints tight end. The Ravens will most likely be in pass first mode against the Chiefs unless they can stop Patrick Mahomes and that insanely powerful offense. That’s tough to believe since no one has had any luck stopping the kid so far this season.
