NFL DraftKings December 9 Late Afternoon Cheap Picks
By Bill Pivetz
With five games in the late afternoon DraftKings slate, there are more players to pick from that could break out and win you some cash.
The NFL schedule for Week 14 looks a bit different compared to the other weeks. There are eight games in the early late and five in the late afternoon, unlike the usual nine and four. This added game gives owners another set of players to use in their DraftKings lineup. I have some sleeper picks that could make a difference in your lineup.
The five games in the late afternoon are DEN/SF, CIN/LAC, PHI/DAL, DET/ARI, and PIT/OAK. There are some teams that you shouldn’t want any part of. They haven’t looked good in weeks and nothing is going to change this week.
With injuries and changes in game flow, there are a few players that could break out and score some fantasy points. We already know about the elite players, so these players are going to cost significantly less but could have a bigger impact.
I will pick one player from each game that owners should target when building their lineups.
DEN/SF
The Denver Broncos will be without Emmanuel Sanders for the rest of the season. This leaves Courtland Sutton as the top receiver. With the defense focused on him and the lack of a Broncos tight end, Daesean Hamilton is the next in line.
At just $3,000, Case Keenum will be looking his way a lot. The San Francisco 49ers defense is ranked 25th against quarterbacks and 23rd against wide receivers. Hamilton will have the most points among wide receivers this game.

CIN/LAC
Melvin Gordon has been ruled out for Week 14. A lot of people are looking at Austin Ekeler but the other play would be Justin Jackson. He ran for 63 yards and a touchdown on eight carries last week. Ekeler has just one double-digit game in his last five games.
The Los Angeles Chargers like to pass the ball but the Cincinnati Bengals defense is bad against both the pass and the run. While Ekeler may catch a few passes out of the backfield, Jackson should carry the ball between the 20s.
PHI/DAL
For this matchup, I couldn’t decide between a skill player. The best play could be the Dallas Cowboys defense. They’ve recorded six interceptions and 10 sacks in their last four games.
The defense has allowed 14 first-quarter points in 12 games this season and the Philadelphia Eagles have failed to score in the first score in nine of their 12 games. The Eagles have struggled to pass and run the ball which is a good combination for the Dallas defense.
DET/ARI
With Kenny Golladay the top wide receiver and Bruce Ellington listed as questionable, Matthew Stafford is going to have few options to throw it to. This is where Levine Toilolo comes in. He had his best game of the season last week with four catches and 90 yards.
The Arizona Cardinals defense plays the tight end tough but with enough targets, Toilolo should rack up the yards. He’s the de facto No. 3 pass catcher for the Detroit Lions. He’s priced at $2,600, the 10th most expensive tight end in the slate.
PIT/OAK
The obvious pick is Jaylen Samuels. With James Conner ruled out, the Pittsburgh Steelers will rely on Samuels to carry the ball. However, he may not carry the ball that much due to Oakland’s poor secondary. We could see Ben Roethlisberger throw it 40 times this game.
Then again, if the Steelers get a big lead early, Samuels could get his carries as they look to drain the clock. He’s priced at only $3,700.
This slate doesn’t have the best matchups on a large scale. But, for the select individuals, they could have a break out game and not cost DraftKings players a lot of their budget. Good luck in Week 14.
