After an exciting Week 14, let’s go through the biggest surprises and prepare fantasy football owners for Week 15.

Week 14 was the start of the fantasy football playoffs for a lot of leagues. Some matchups were won and lost based on the performances we saw over the last 24 hours. There are some stars that shined on the big stage, there were a handful of others that disappointed their owners.

Let’s go through some of the biggest surprises and disappointments from Week 14. We’ll then take a quick look at Week 15 and some players you should consider adding to your team for the semi-finals.

Starting with the most recent game, the Chicago Bears defense dominated the high-scoring Los Angeles Rams. They picked off Jared Goff four times and sacked him three times. They also limited Todd Gurley to just 28 yards on 11 attempts.

The Bears offense scored just 15 points so they weren’t on fire either but it was enough to hold onto the lead. Heading into Week 15, the Rams face the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles had a heartbreaking loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Their defense allowed Amari Cooper, who has been a Godsend for the Cowboys since the trade, to run all over them so the Rams should be able to bounce back for those owners.

Speaking of the Eagles, their wide receivers did not have a good game. Alshon Jeffery was the lone exception with his six catches, 50 yards and a touchdown. Golden Tate and Jordan Matthews scored one point each. Nelson Agholor put up 49 yards on two catches

The running back situation is as bad as its been all season. The lone bright spot is the veteran Darren Sproles. He may not rush the ball well but he is a great pass catcher out of the backfield. He’s owned in just 4.8 percent of ESPN leagues.

Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake had career games. Henry started Week 14 with 238 yards and four touchdowns on just 17 carries. He was RB40 entering Week 14. He was owned in just 56.2 percent of leagues and started in 14.7 percent of them. Those few owners are likely heading to the semi-finals.

Drake scored the final touchdown against the New England Patriots on a play that rarely works. He was getting out-carried by Frank Gore and Brandon Bolden for 99 percent of the game. He finished with 14 fantasy points but has just four games with over 50 yards. Ease your expectations if you own him.

The New York Giants defense was a popular waiver add because of their matchup but was not owned in enough leagues. They picked off Mark Sanchez three times, recorded five sacks, scored a touchdown and allowed 16 points, once Sanchez was out of the game. They face the Tennessee Titans in Week 15. If you believe Henry was a one-week wonder, then they are a top option again.

Waiver Wire Adds

Justin Jackson, LAC – The Los Angeles Chargers are dealing with injuries to their top two running backs. Melvin Gordon missed the last two weeks but could be ready for Week 15. Austin Ekeler was the starter but suffered a stinger late in the game.

The Chargers play on Thursday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Even if Gordon is ready to play, Jackson should get a lot of looks as he was catching and running the ball.

DaeSean Hamilton, DEN – I mentioned him in my cheap DFS plays post. Case Keenum likes to target the slot receiver. Courtland Sutton had just two catches for 14 yards. Hamilton, on the other hand, caught seven passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. They face the Cleveland Browns in Week 15. He could be a nice flex play.

Robert Foster, BUF – We saw this kind of game from Zay Jones in Week 13 and saw him come back down to Earth in Week 14. In his place, Foster stepped up. Without Kelvin Benjamin, Foster hauled in seven catches for 104 yards. In a favorable matchup against the Detroit Lions, he’s a deep waiver add.

Week 14 saw a lot of surprises, like the Cleveland Browns defeating the Carolina Panthers, the Dolphins miracle win, the Bears shutting down the Rams and out-of-nowhere running back performances. If you’re on track to win your first playoff win, congrats, but stay focused on the big prize, your fantasy football championship.
