Schalke face Lokomotiv Moscow at the Veltins Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The good fortune that Schalke enjoyed in the Bundesliga throughout last season might have deserted them during the current campaign, but those lucky breaks have at least followed them into Europe on their first Champions League appearance in four years. They won the reverse fixture in Moscow courtesy of a scrappy late Weston McKennie goal, and this match has become a dead rubber for the German club: they can neither catch Porto in first place nor be caught themselves by third-placed Galatasaray. But with Yevhen Konoplyanka, Nabil Bentaleb, Guido Burgstaller, Franco Di Santo, Breel Embolo and Mark Uth all injured, coach Domenico Tedesco probably won’t have the luxury of resting many players.
Lokomotiv Moscow have only ever won once on German soil, although that was against Bayern Munich back in 1995. Their 2-0 home victory over Galatasaray in the last match-day brought to an end a six-game losing streak in European competition. Despite that run of poor form, the Russian champions still have a chance of making it into the Europa League knock-out stages, but they’ll have to win here and hope that Galatasaray lose or draw against Porto.
