The bowl season kicks off with six games tomorrow. It’s almost like a whole football Saturday! I will not make a pick for the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. I wouldn’t be doing you any justice there. The only 1-AA teams I have watched are North Dakota State and Youngstown State. I wouldn’t be making an educated pick.
However, for the rest of the bowls, you will get my picks against the spread just like I did all season long. I had a decent regular season, but I can make it look a whole lot better with a strong bowl season!
Just in case you missed any:
Autonation Cure Bowl
Utah State(-7.5) vs. North Texas(4):
Utah State 10-2, 7-1(3rd Mountain West):
Wins: vs. New Mexico State(60-13), vs. Tennessee Tech(73-12), vs. Air Force(42-32), at BYU(45-20), vs. UNLV(59-28), at Wyoming(24-16), vs. New Mexico(61-19), at Hawaii(56-17), vs. San Jose State(62-24), at Colorado State(29-24)
Losses: at Michigan State(31-38), at Boise State(24-33)
Record vs. bowl teams: 2-2
Jordan Love is one of the most exciting players that never on major television, at least in regular hours. Love threw 28 touchdowns to just five interceptions. This offense gets the ball around, and is very explosive. The Aggies put up at least 60 points four times and ended up in the 50’s twice more. This is a hard team to stop.
North Texas 9-3, 5-3(2nd CUSA):
Wins: vs. SMU(46-23), vs. Incarnate Word(58-16), at Arkansas(44-17), at Liberty(47-7),at UTEP(27-24), vs. Southern Mississippi(30-7), vs. Rice(41-17), vs. Florida Atlantic(41-38), at UTSA(24-21)
Losses: vs. Louisiana Tech(27-29), at UAB(21-29), at Old Dominion(31-34)
Record vs. bowl teams: 0-2
Mason Fine threw for 3,734 yards with 27 touchdowns and five interceptions. DeAndre Torrey is a dangerous runner, but teams started keying on him later in the season. The good news for the Mean Green is that Rico Bussey should be fine for this game. The bad news is that he doesn’t play defense.
Prediction:
The quarterback play in this game is going to be amazing. Jordan Love and Mason Fine are two of the best quarterbacks you’ve never heard of. The difference here is that Love has a much better supporting cast. The three losses for the Mean Green were by a combined 13 points.
This line actually opened at -11.5 and quickly dropped. I doubt this goes below seven. If it does, this is a much easier pick. Even so, this looks like a pretty easy pick.
Pick: Utah State
