2018 Raycom Media Camellia Bowl Odds And Prediction
Bowl season is finally upon us! With the Army-Navy game last weekend, we didn’t even have to go a whole week without a game! Next up is the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl!

The bowl season kicks off with six games tomorrow. It’s almost like a whole football Saturday! I will not make a pick for the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. I wouldn’t be doing you any justice there. The only 1-AA teams I have watched are North Dakota State and Youngstown State. I wouldn’t be making an educated pick.
However, for the rest of the bowls, you will get my picks against the spread and point wagers just like I did all season long. I had a solid regular season, but I can make it look a whole lot better with a strong bowl season!
Just in case you missed any:
Autonation Cure Bowl
Progressive New Mexico Bowl
Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl
Georgia Southern(-2.5) vs. Eastern Michigan at Montgomery, AL(2):
Georgia Southern 9-3, 6-2 (3rd Sun Belt):
Wins: vs. South Carolina State(37-6), vs. Massachusetts(34-13), vs. Arkansas State(28-21), vs. South Alabama(48-13), at Texas State(15-13), at New Mexico State(48-31), vs. Appalachian State(34-14), at Coastal Carolina(41-17), at Georgia State(35-14)
Losses: at Clemson(7-38), at Louisiana-Monroe(25-44), vs. Troy(35-21)
What is it about Georgia and option offenses? Georgia Southern may not be as hardcore of an option offense as the more famous Ramblin Wreck, but they are just as potent. There are a couple of major differences. Wesley Fields does more than any one back in Georgia Tech’s system does. Shai Werts is a better passer than Taquon Marshall, and he will throw it around a lot more.
Record vs. bowl teams: 2-2
Eastern Michigan 7-5, 5-3(t2nd MAC West):
Wins: vs. Monmouth(51-17), at Purdue(20-19), vs. Toledo(28-26), at Ball State(42-20), at Central Michigan (17-7), vs. Akron(27-7), at Kent State(28-20)
Losses: at Buffalo(28-35), at San Diego State(20-23), vs. Northern Illinois(23-26), at Western Michigan(24-27), vs. Army(22-37)
Record vs. bowl teams: 2-4
The Eagles had the good fortune of catching Purdue while they were still using two quarterbacks. EMU must have got the memo because this team really took off after they decided on Tyler Wiegers at quarterback. The real story of this team is the defense though. A unit that will be fully tested by an option offense.
Record vs. bowl teams: 5-1
Prediction:
The Eagle Bowl opened with even odds, and I’m a little surprised that it didn’t stay there. Georgia Southern does have the advantage of being closer to home, but I will guarantee you that the northern Eagles will enjoy the weather in Montgomery more than they would in Ypsilanti.
This will be a great game though. Option offenses can wreak havoc on defenses, but Eastern Michigan has been tested before. Five wins over bowl teams is not a fluke. That’s an indicator of what this team can do.
Pick: Eastern Michigan
