Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is going on in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any other information you need to know.
Fortnite Friday is a weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multiplayer showdown game, Fortnite: Battle Royale. Season 7 has brought in some huge changes to game play, but none as big or polarizing as the mythic sword.
Polarizing might not be the right term as there aren’t two opposing sides to this debate. NO ONE likes the recently introduced “mythic” sword. The item grants its holder a total of 400 xp (200 shield and 200 health) and super-powered melee and movement abilities. It’s very similar to the “Thanos” LTM from season 5.
Update: Fortnite listened to the community and the infinity blade has been vaulted.
Heya folks,

We messed up and rolled out the Infinity Blade overpowered / without good counters, especially in the end game.
The Infinity Blade has been Vaulted and we are re-evaluating our approach to Mythic items.
Thanks for calling us out on this!
Despite mass disapproval from the Fortnite community, Epic Games seems to be sticking with the sword (and possibly introducing new mythic items in the future — more on this later). Let’s get these challenges out of the way so we can talk about how awful the sword is in more detail.
Free Challenges
- Search chests in different named locations (0/7)
- Damage opponents with different types of weapons (0/5)
- Eliminate opponents in Snobby Shores or Fatal Fields (0/3)
The first and third challenges are pretty self-explanatory. Damaging opponents with different types of weapons refers to the style of weapon, not its name or class. You must use five completely separate types of weapons.
Assault rifles, shotguns, pistols, explosives, sniper rifles. Damaging an opponent with a regular assault rifle then a SCAR will not count as two separate weapons. To complete this challenge, you must inflict damage with one from each category.
Battle Pass Challenges
- Stage 1: Visit Snobby Shores and Pleasant Park in a single match (0/1)
- Stage 2: Visit Dusty Divot and Lonely Lodge in a single match (0/1)
- Stage 3: Visit Frosty Flights and Tomato Town in a single match (0/1)
- Play the sheet music on the pianos near Pleasant Park and Lonely Lodge (0/2)
- Compete in a dance off at an abandoned mansion (0/1)
- Eliminate an opponent from at least 50m away (0/1)
- John Madden on the Madden NFL 23 cover
- Madden 22 adds 10 college football teams in ‘Campus Legends’ limited time event
- Look: Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes share the Madden 22 cover
- FanSided250: Overwatch League fan groups are bridging the digital divide
- Some creative genius made Street Fighter characters out of NBA legends
The staged challenge is extremely easy to complete in one of the new airplanes, so swoop down to one of the airports and grab one to complete this challenge quickly. Eliminating an opponent from 50m is also pretty simple and you’ll probably complete this without really trying with either a sniper or an assault rifle.
The pianos near Pleasant Park and Lonely Lodge are already equipped with sheet music, which is an easier version of last season’s piano challenge. One of the pianos is in a different location, though. The piano near Lonely Lodge can be found in J5, just north of the abandoned hero mansion and the one near Pleasant Park is in its old spot on top of the mountain to the west. Competing in a dance off is also pretty simple. The dance floor is located in the basement of the abandoned hero mansion just south of Lonely Lodge.
The banner for completing all of this week’s challenges will appear in the easternmost building of Frosty Flights.

Mythic Items
Epic Games released an update via Reddit yesterday on the future of mythic items in battle royale. In this update, they hinted that the infinity blade isn’t going anywhere and that we can expect to possibly see more mythic items in the future — the exact opposite of what the Fortnite community is asking for.
Sure, they are going to make it slightly less advantageous by removing the ability to farm or build while carrying the sword, but that isn’t what people are asking for. 400 health and a melee weapon that basically removes the advantage of building from any fight should not be part of the regular battle royale game.
Epic has always done a great job adjusting to the communities reactions. Items that were too good have been brought down to earth or vaulted, items that took away from game play were quickly taken out of the regular game mode. Why is this time different?
Mythic items will likely be a big part of season 7’s story line, which is too bad. Reading through any comment section under one of Fortnite‘s tweets will show you exactly how the community feels about these weapons. Even the big-time streamers and professionals are weighing in, saying the sword would be better in a LTM.
Okay...all jokes aside.

How on earth is the sword still in-game in its current state? I absolutely love Epic and 95% of what they do to the game but this just fundamentally ruins Fortnite.
Please just make it a LTM and everyone will be happy.
More from Gaming
Mythic items like the sword and whatever else they come up with would be ridiculously fun in a new LTM. Instead of re-releasing the same old LTMs, give us a brand new one with these items worked into it! Or make a battle royale without mythic items as a LTM. No one wants mythic items in the regular game mode. No one.
Planes and turrets are fine. We can deal with these. But please get rid of the stupid sword.
Elimination of the week
Here’s a look at the infinity blade in action. If Epic was ever planning on releasing a “back to day 1” LTM, this would be the perfect time. No one wants this garbage you’re about to see.
