It’s amazing what Chris Holtmann has done in Columbus in just a short period of time. He is now the premier head coach on campus after Urban Meyer announced his retirement last week and that will come with plenty of pressure, but he seems like a guy who can handle it well. He turned around a dormant program in just one season and has the Buckeyes in the top-15, coming off a win over Bucknell — though the Bison did give the Buckeyes a scare.

The MAC has to be on alert. Buffalo is destroying every team in its path this season and that continued in Week 6 as the Bulls beat Southern Illinois to improve to 10-0. Going undefeated isn’t something you often see in college basketball during the regular season, but the Bulls truly have a shot. They’ll remain at No. 14 this week, but the Bulls will put their perfect season on the line in Week 7 against Marquette in a top-20 matchup.

More impressive than most wins in Week 6, Virginia Tech took down Washington, 73-61. Unfortunately, it won’t be enough to move the Hokies up in the polls because, well, everyone ahead of them took care of business and that’s what happens when it’s close to finals time and there are one-game weeks for most teams. Virginia Tech is still a stock to watch.

Texas Tech was one of just a handful of teams to play two games in Week 6 and the Red Raiders took care of business emphatically. They beat Northwestern State by 35 and Abilene Christian by 34 points to improve to 10-0. Unfortunately for these red-hot Red Raiders, they’ll drop one spot in the AP Top 25 because of a big win by North Carolina over No. 4 Gonzaga which will cause a jump into the top-10.

Another team dropping just one spot thanks to North Carolina’s upset win over Gonzaga is fellow ACC member Florida State. The Seminoles didn’t play at all in Week 6 and this one is an easier decision than the one to drop Texas Tech one spot for two wins, but they’re still a top-10 worthy team with an 8-1 mark. Florida State has won three straight and have four cakewalk games before ACC play begins and a 12-1 record by the start of conference action seems likely.
