Richard Sherman almost certainly got dissed by the Seahawks during the overtime coin flip on Sunday.

If you thought the bad blood between the Seattle Seahawks and Richard Sherman has simmered, Sunday was a reminder that it hadn’t.

The Seahawks and 49ers went to overtime on Sunday, and instead of sending out a team captain to meet Sherman at midfield, Seattle sent backup quarterback Brett Hundley.

There are many, many parts to this that we need to unpack.

In case you don’t know, there’s a ton of sour grapes between Sherman and the Seahawks, specifically head coach Pete Carroll. The infamous goal line decision in Super Bowl 49 to have Russell Wilson throw rather than hand it to Marshawn Lynch harpooned the legacy of the Legion of Boom, a victory that would have solidified its place among the greatest defenses in NFL history. When the Seahawks unceremoniously released Sherman a few years later, and he immediately signed with their division rivals, it was apparent the bad blood wasn’t getting any better.

So take that context into what happened on Sunday, when the Seahawks and Carroll sent out their backup quarterback to meet Sherman at midfield.

It can be argued that Russell Wilson couldn’t come out for the coin flip because he was busy game planning for overtime. Sending Hundley makes sense in this context, but there are a number of players higher on the food chain the Seahawks could have sent out.

The NBA will forever be the pettiest sport on the planet, and Sherman’s 49ers got the last laugh in an upset win, but this was an all-time flex.
