In classic fashion, the Pittsburgh Steelers had to deal with some wild officiating against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers just can’t catch a break anymore when they’re playing the New England Patriots.
Just a year after the controversial call that negated a Jesse James game-winning touchdown Steelers fans were a bit on edge with officiating this time around. In the fourth quarter, fans got understandably frustrated.
On a play that very well could have been a fumble by the Patriots, the Steelers went to challenge the call, but then the call was changed mid-play to say that the runner was down by forward progress, and not contact. This prevented the Steelers from being able to challenge the call, and therefore they weren’t able to get the turnover.
Because it’s the Patriots, there are definitely those who are going to call this another conspiracy. That’s obviously not the case, and it’s not crazy to think that forward progress had stopped, but the fact that the call was changed mid-play was madness.
Despite all of this, Tom Brady still managed to throw a brutal interception inside the red zone that helped the Steelers regain possession with a 14-10 lead.
