Arrow is taking a few weeks off starting this Monday and will return in January with new episodes. Read on to find out exactly when Arrow will return.
After a rough season 6, Arrow has found its footing again to start season 7. But, it is now mid December and that means its time for the show to take a few weeks off. Luckily, the show is leaving on a high note after the “Elseworlds” crossover.
Despite being tilted “Elseworlds,” this year’s big Arrowverse crossover was a lot less stand alone than originally believed. The ramifications of what Oliver Queen did during the crossover will be felt this season and into next year’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover.
Oliver may have spent most of the crossover as Barry Allen or one half of the Trigger Twins, but he learned a valuable lesson by running is The Flash’s shoes for a while. How to have some fun and even crack a smile. Hopefully, that lighter side of Oliver we saw while he was Barry will carry over to the back half of Arrow season 7.
On the Olicity side of things, It looks like they solved their current issues with a single scene during “Elseworlds”. Now, there will be time to focus on Queen family drama as Oliver learns about his paternal half-sister after the winter hiatus. But, Olicity drama is sure to come back when Felicity learns about the deal Oliver made with the Monitor.
Let’s talk about what that deal could be. Obviously, it has to do with “Crisis on Infinite Earths” next year. Could Oliver have sacrificed himself to save Barry and Kara? It would be an interesting way for the Arrowverse to get around a large obstacle that would come with sticking to the comics version of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Spoiler alert for a comic that came out in 1985: Both Kara and Barry die saving the multiverse.
Obviously, the Arrowverse is not about to lose two of its lead heroes. But, Arrow will be in its eighth season, so it could be Oliver Queen who sacrifices himself to save the multiverse in the TV version of Crisis. It would be a great way to end Oliver Queen’s journey from murdering vigilante to hero.
In the comics, Kara and Barry’s deaths in Crisis were unique because they actually stuck for a long time. Ending Arrow after Oliver dies in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” would be a way to make the death more permanent (it’s comics no death is ever that permanent).
This would also help to answer a major flash forwards question for this season of Arrow: Where is Oliver Queen in the future? Since the beginning of the season, the word about the flash forwards is that they are locked in, nothing that happens in the present timeline will impact what we see happening with future William.
We could already be seeing what life is like post Oliver dying because it certainly sounds like Oliver is long gone in the flash forwards. That is something that will hopefully be explored in the back half of season 7.
Arrow will return with new episodes on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW. It will be paired with a different DC show in the new year as Black Lightning will now follow Arrow on Mondays.
