San Diego State vs. Ohio(-2.5) at Frisco, TX(4):
San Diego State 7-5, 4-4 (4th MWC West):
Wins: vs. Sacramento State(28-14), vs. Arizona State(28-21), vs. Eastern Michigan(23-20), at Boise State(19-13), vs. Air Force(21-17), vs San Jose State(16-13), at New Mexico(31-23)
Losses: at Stanford(10-31), at Nevada(24-28), vs. UNLV(24-27), at Fresno State(14-23), vs. Hawaii(30-31)
The Aztec offense was anemic at best most of the season, which was unusual. Their running game is what usually defined this team. Just like in past years, Juwan Washington and Chase Jasmin continued the tradition of great SDSU backs. The only problem is the quarterbacks couldn’t do a lot to help the offense for most of the year, in particular the three game slide to end the year.
Record vs. bowl teams: 3-4
Ohio 8-4, 6-2(2nd MAC East):
Wins: vs. Howard(38-32), vs. Massachusetts(58-42), at Kent State(27-26), vs. Bowling Green(49-14), at Ball State(52-14), at Western Michigan(59-14), vs. Buffalo(52-17), vs.Akron(49-28)
Losses: at Virginia(31-45), at Cincinnati(30-34), at Northern Illinois(21-24), at Miami(OH)(28-30)
Record vs. bowl teams: 3-3
This was a tale of two seasons for Ohio. If you ask any MAC team who they didn’t want to play down the stretch, it had to be the fighting Soliches. Ohio blew out three MAC bowl teams down the stretch, including the Buffalo team that many considered the best in the conference.
The emergence of A.J. Ouellette sparked this team. The guidance of Nathan Rourke under center helped. Papi White is one of the most dangerous playmakers that you’ve never heard of.
Prediction:
This is a good old offense vs. defense game, except the SDSU defense really hasn’t been that good. The Aztecs tumbled down the stretch, and Ohio only got better as the weather got colder. You have to go with the team that’s rolling here.
Pick: Ohio
Stay tuned for the rest of the bowl picks against the spread, and our DFS picks for the NBA, NFL, and even some NHL action! We have something for everyone!
