Fantasy Football Championship Week Waiver Wire
By Bill Pivetz
With one more week left of the fantasy football season, here are the players you should add off the Waiver Wire for your championship matchup.
Fantasy Football Championship Week Waiver Wire
It’s championship week for the fantasy football season, unless you play until Week 17. If you made it this far, then congratulations. If not, better luck next season. The final list of waiver wire adds is going to feature a lot of backups. With teams likely to rest their injured players in hopes of staying healthy for the playoffs, you want to grab those substitutes as quickly as possible.
There were a lot of players injured in Week 15, making their status for this week questionable. The dreaded word. While their playing status won’t be revealed until Friday or Saturday, adding their handcuffs just in case is a sound strategy. If you don’t have any injured players then, one good for you and two, add your opponent’s handcuffs. You want to do everything you can to win.
Jamaal Williams, GB
Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones left halfway through the game last week. He is believed to have suffered a sprained MCL. That will likely keep him out for Week 16 and maybe even Week 17. Since being “freed,” Jones has put up five straight double-digit games.
In his place, Williams will likely take the bulk of the carries. He has just one double-digit game under his belt and it came last week. However, with no one behind him to steal carries, he’ll have plenty of opportunities to rack up the yards and score.
Williams is owned in just 12.1 percent of ESPN leagues. The Packers play the New York Jets in Week 16, a stingy rush defense.
Alfred Blue, HOU
Lamar Miller left with an ankle injury on the opening drive. He did return during the second drive but went back to the locker room. While it doesn’t look like he’ll miss time, it’s something to monitor throughout the week.

If Miller were to miss Week 16, Blue would benefit from it. Blue didn’t look good in Week 15 with just six yards on nine carries.
The Houston Texans face the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16. Their defense allowed an average of 24.9 fantasy points to opposing running backs. Blue is available in 96 percent of leagues.
Mike Williams, LAC
Keenan Allen did not record a catch in Week 15 as he suffered a hip pointer. As a result, Williams had his breakout game with 76 yards and two touchdowns on seven receptions.
The Los Angeles Chargers played on Thursday night and don’t play until Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens. That extra time should give Allen enough time to recover and play.
Though, with the tough Ravens defense, Williams should still be able to put up enough points to be worth adding. He’s owned in 29.0 percent of leagues. If you miss out on him, Tyrell Williams is a good flyer in a powerful Chargers offense.
Kalen Ballage, MIA
Frank Gore likely won’t take another snap this season. He left the game with a foot injury and was seen in a walking boot. You would think Kenyan Drake would get more carries but that isn’t the case. He had just one carry and three receptions.
Ballage was the benefactor of Gore’s injury. He finished Week 15 with 12 carries, 123 yards and a touchdown. Drake and Brandon Bolden may be in the mix as well.
Ballage is available in 98 percent of ESPN leagues. He and the Miami Dolphins face the Jacksonville Jaguars, a defense that has allowed four rushing touchdowns in their last seven games.
These players are not the stars you draft early but fantasy football championships are won by finding those gems in the waiver wire. Owners who added Damien Williams, Justin Jackson and the like are in the championship. Now, it’s time to win it.
