NFL playoffs 2018: Biggest difference-maker for each contender
By Ian Wharton
Pittsburgh Steelers – Mike Hilton
The Pittsburgh Steelers have an embarrassment of riches on offense, including five receivers and two running backs who can all produce if given the opportunity. Because of their offensive firepower, we turn to the defensive side where they lack the same impactful talent. Slot extraordinaire Mike Hilton is this team’s best candidate to make a difference-making play when they need it most.
Hilton’s one of the most unique secondary players in the league. Exclusively based in the slot, the 5-foot-9 second-year corner is a tremendously effective blitzer and capable coverage threat. He’s logged five sacks, three interceptions, and 14 passes defensed in the last two seasons.
The slot position is a critical one considering their potential playoff matchups. Instead of relying on their zone tendencies, Pittsburgh should trust the sticky Hilton to face-guard Keenan Allen, Julian Edelman, and any other threat they’re set to visit. He’s easily this team’s best defensive back and playmaker on the back end.
