As the USC Trojans continue to try and return to their former glory, these recruits from their 2019 early signing day class will help the cause.

Plenty of hype surrounded the USC Trojans entering the 2018 college football season, but that wholly died relatively quickly as it became apparent that this group was average at best. Clay Helton remains at the helm of the program, but he’s going to need a big improvement with this team and quickly if he wants that to remain the case. The pressure is on, to put it plainly.

The big hope for the immediate future of USC is looking at their 2018 recruiting class, which ranked fourth in the country. That class is going to be critical for the Trojans, though, because their 2019 recruiting class, as of entering the early signing day period, doesn’t look to be that great.

Entering the early signing day period, the USC 2019 class was ranked just inside the top 30 nationally and just fourth in the Pac-12. What’s more, the class featured no 5-star recruits and the highest-ranked commit nationally was offensive tackle Jason Rodriguez, ranked 131st in the country in relation to the rest of his peers in this class.

In truth, the early signing day period isn’t highly critical for USC as not many of their targets are making commitments. The one player to watch for the Trojans, though, is weakside defensive end Drake Jackson, a 4-star recruit and the 12th best player at his position. Though other Pac-12 schools are in the mix, this is one that the Trojans have to nab.

With that in mind, let’s dive into the USC 2019 early signing day recruiting class:

In truth, if USC wants to get back into the national spotlight under Helton, they’re going to have to do better than this. The Trojans class at the early signing day period is truly nothing that special, and that doesn’t look as if it’ll change. Helton and his staff will have to pull off something big if the course will need to reverse in a big way.
