Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is going on in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any other information you need to know.

Fortnite Friday is a weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multiplayer showdown game, Fortnite: Battle Royale. Epic Games has launched its “14 days of Fortnite” so be sure to log on every day and collect the free swag.

The give-aways are mostly cosmetic items, some of which you may not care about, but it’s still pretty cool of Epic to give away free items in their free game that you spend so much of your free time on. Last week, they listened to the community about the mythic item disaster, this week, they are giving away free stuff. Epic Games continues to set the bar.

You’ll notice the map is more “Christmas-ey” than it was before. As part of the 14 days, the Fortnite world has been lit-up from top to bottom with decorations. If you aren’t in the holiday spirit yet, play a few matches tonight and that’ll change.

Free challenges

  • Ride a zipline in different matches (0/5)
  • Stage 1: Land at Lonely Lodge (0/1)
    • Stage 2: Land at Pleasant Park (0/1)
    • Stage 3: Land at Lucky Landing (0/1)
    • Stage 4: Land at Lazy Links (0/1)
    • Stage 5: Land at Tilted Towers (0/1)
  • Legendary weapon eliminations (0/2)

Of these three challenges, finding and using a legendary weapon will likely be the only one to cause you any trouble. If you find yourself having trouble with this challenge, the LTM modes are often stocked with legendary weapons and easy eliminations. Especially the ones that include respawning.

Battle pass challenges

  • Search Chests at Polar Peak or Tomato Temple (0/7)
  • Ring a doorbell in different named locations in a single match (0/2)
  • Search between three ski lodges (0/1)
  • Stage 1: Deal damage with shotguns to opponents (0/200)
    • Stage two: Deal damage with pistols to opponents (0/200)
    • Stage 3: Deal damage with sniper rifles to opponents (0/200)

These challenges are relatively simple to complete. If you haven’t yet explored Polar Peak, it is a never-ending tower of loot that makes the old church at Haunted Hills seem like one of those tiny houses from HGTV. Finding chests and dealing damage are simple, just be aware of where you are and what you need to stack in your loadout as you work through these.

Ringing a doorbell in two different named locations is a fun new challenge. Your best bet is likely traveling between Retail Row, Salty Springs or Paradise Palms (any combination of two) as they are relatively close together.

Finally, searching between three ski lodges brings us to the newer part of the map, just North of Happy Hamlet. Here’s the location of the hidden battle star.

Free battle star: Once you’ve collected all of these, the free battle star can be found in Frosty Flights,in the doorway of the first of the two hangars next to the runway.

Update v7.10 patch notes and news

The most recent update brought the usual minor adjustments, bug fixes and so on. There were a few key changes made to the game that make gameplay vastly better, though. First, sticking a landing on a vehicle will no longer damage those in it. It was ridiculously frustrating trying to figure out why players were taking damage on the Quads when landing perfectly.

Second, players who are riding in planes that get shot down will take 50 damage, directly to their health, instead of only 25. This should deter players from hiding up in planes nearing the end of a game. The “auto pick-up weapons” setting has also been fixed.

The Block: The Block has unveiled its first creation. A wild, greenhouse-like factory named Grimy Greens. Check out the area for yourself in-game but here’s an overview:

LTMs: As part of Fortnite‘s 14-day holiday extravaganza, they will be rolling out new and old limited time game modes every day. The best to come out of the first three days was easily the Unvaulted LTM, bringing back everyone’s favorite weapon, the Tactical SMG.

Elimination of the week

This week’s EOTW comes from Captain Ocho, who if asked, would probably tell you this shot wasn’t lucky. Whether luck was involved or not, sniping from a plane is always impressive.
