Wolves started the season well, but endured a bit of a hiccup midway through the season. Tiredness and a lack of adaptability hampered them, but they have bounced back with a vengeance in recent weeks, winning three on the trot including a massive win against Chelsea.
They take on a Liverpool side riding high after consolidating their place on top of the Premier League and securing a place in the knockouts of the Champions League.
Liverpool have been absolutely ruthless this season, dropping only 6 points so far. Many have been critical of their style of play, grinding out results rather than sweeping opposition away, but it is this change courtesy of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson that has propelled Liverpool to the top. In recent weeks, however, Liverpool’s front three has also found form, Mohammad Salah and Sadio Mane in particular. Together, Liverpool are playing as a unit, with all parts functioning smoothly and look like they could go all the way in the challenge for the title.
Facing Wolves will be a tough test though. As Chelsea and Manchester City have learned already this season, Wolves on home ground is a tough test. Nuno Espirito Santo has created a team united by spirit and fight that are balanced out by technical skill and guile. In recent weeks they have shown their ability to be tactically flexible and as a result have pulled off three wins in a row. Wolves will have ambitions to finish in a European spot this season, and with Man United in crisis and Everton dealing with their own struggles, they will fancy finishing in sixth.
