Bowl season is finally upon us! We had six bowl games to kick us off on Saturday. There were games all week, and now we have another four game Saturday. After Christmas we get up to more than one game per day, so the season is really picking up now.

Hawaii vs. Louisiana Tech(-1.5) at Honolulu, HI(5):
Hawaii 8-5, 5-3(t-2nd MWC West):
Wins: at Colorado State(43-34), vs. Navy(59-41), vs. Rice(43-29), vs. Duquesne(42-21), at San Jose State(44-41), vs. Wyoming(17-13), vs. UNLV(35-28), at San Diego State(31-30)
Losses: at Army(21-28), at BYU(23-49), vs. Nevada(22-40), at Fresno State(20-50), vs. Utah State(17-56)
Record vs. bowl teams: 1-5
Besides the eye-popping stats of Cole McDonald, the thing that is going to stand out is that record against Bowl teams. All five of those teams could win their bowl games though. Army is blowing out Houston. Utah State already won big. So did BYU. Fresno took down a power five school. The only one left to go is Nevada, and they have a good matchup.
Hawaii has a whole stable of really good receivers headed up by John Ursua. If you do manage to cover him, you still have to deal with Cedric Byrd. If by some miracle you cover them both like San Diego State did, then JoJo Ward will get you. It never ends for your secondary.
Louisiana Tech 7-5, 5-3 (t-2nd CUSA West)
Wins: at South Alabama(30-26), vs. Southern(54-17), at North Texas(29-27), at UTSA(31-3), vs. UTEP(31-24), at Florida Atlantic(21-13), vs. Rice(28-13)
Losses: at LSU(21-38), vs. UAB(7-28), at Mississippi State(3-45), at Southern Mississippi(20-21), vs. Western Kentucky(15-30)
Record vs. bowl teams: 1-3
J’Mar Smith is continuing a long line of good quarterbacks at Louisiana Tech. However, outside of Adrian Hardy, he hasn’t had a whole lot of help. The Bulldogs stumbled down the stretch with their only win of the last month being against an awful Rice team.
The strength of this team is the defense, but as Mississippi State and Western Kentucky showed, this secondary can have issues at times. That’s bad news for the Bulldogs.
Prediction:
This line opened with the home team being favored by 2.5, and I thought it was low there. I have no idea why this line flipped, and the more I think about it, the more it makes me nervous. Hawaii is at home with an elite offense. How do they lose this? The simple answer is they don’t.
Pick: Hawaii
