DeMarcus Cousins dunking on Kevin Durant suggests his rehab is going well

DeMarcus Cousins made it clear that he’ll be back soon after throwing down on Kevin Durant.

Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins hasn’t played a game for the defending champions this season, but they are counting on him to be back for the playoffs. His recovery from an Achilles tendon injury appears to be healing nicely though, and he is even taking it to his own teammates.

He’s been playing one-on-one with Kevin Durant after practice occasionally in the last few weeks, and he threw down a powerful slam on the two-time Finals MVP this week.

Cousins standing over Durant is the best part of this. Durant foolishly tried to block the dunk attempt, and that is how he ended up on the floor with the center shouting “that’s game!” to the onlookers.

Durant and Cousins seem to have an excellent rapport with each other though, and it’s a bit terrifying that the Warriors haven’t peaked as a group yet. Adding a player with Cousins’ skill set will take a little while, but once he’s incorporated Golden State will have a much higher ceiling. Durant admitted after practice that he was bested.

“He beat me today,” the forward said to ESPN. “He beat me today, but I live to fight another day.”

The Warriors haven’t set a return date for Cousins yet, but he has practiced a lot with the G League Santa Cruz Warriors. He shouldn’t be underestimated as a 270 pound center with perhaps the nastiest low post game in the league.

Having five All-Stars from last year may not be fair; however, that is what Golden State currently has. It’s truly an embarrassment of riches. Whether or not they can turn that into three titles in a row remains to be seen, but the season will clearly be a failure if it doesn’t end with confetti and champagne. It definitely won’t be Durant that Cousins is dunking on in the playoffs. That’s for sure.
