The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are set to host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in the Hawaii Bowl.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are flying out to the state of Hawaii and will face the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the Hawaii Bowl. That’s quite the trip for the Bulldogs from Ruston, Louisiana. For the Rainbow Warriors, though, this will pretty much be a home game. The last time Louisiana Tech took a trip out to Hawaii to face the Rainbow Warriors, the hometown team came out on top 41-21.

The Bulldogs are looking to avoid a repeat of that. For Louisiana Tech to come out on top, quarterback J’mar Smith will have to play more efficiently than he has throughout most of the year. Smith has been a pretty good quarterback for the Bulldogs this season, throwing for 2,873 yards while completing 56.9 percent of his passes, but he’s only thrown 14 touchdowns all year. Louisiana Tech might need him to make a few big plays to come out on top of this bowl game.

Meanwhile, Hawaii’s quarterback Cole McDonald hasn’t had any issues throwing touchdowns though. This season, McDonald has thrown for 3,790 yards and 35 touchdowns against eight interceptions. The quarterback battle between Smith and McDonald might be the deciding factor in this game.

Prediction: Louisiana Tech’s offense hasn’t been quite as good as it was a season ago, but that doesn’t mean the Bulldogs won’t be able to score on the Rainbow Warriors. Hawaii has been fairly vulnerable to opposing offenses all season and has relied upon its offense to carry it. This game will likely become something of a shootout as the Rainbow Warriors challenge the Bulldogs to go score for score with them. Expect Louisiana Tech to make one more stop and get the win though.

Score: Louisiana Tech 38, Hawaii 34
