Boston College vs. (25)Boise State(-2.5) at Dallas, TX(3):
Boston College 7-5, 4-4(4th ACC Atlantic):
Wins: vs. Massachusetts(55-21), vs. Holy Cross(62-14), at Wake Forest(41-34), vs. Temple(45-35), vs. Louisville(38-20), vs. Miami(OH)(27-14), at Virginia Tech(31-21)
Losses: at Purdue(13-30), at North Carolina State(23-28), vs. Clemson(7-27), at Florida State(21-22), vs. Syracuse(21-42)
Record vs. bowl teams: 4-4
Boston College has a good young core of Anthony Brown and A.J. Dillon, but this team really struggled down the stretch when the competition got tough. A month to get healthy is only going to help the offense. This defense doesn’t really need any help. Any team that can hold Clemson to 27 points is a solid defense.
Boise State 10-3, 5-4 (2nd MWC)
Wins: at Troy(56-20), vs. Connecticut(62-7), at Wyoming(34-14), at Nevada(31-27), vs. Colorado State(56-28), at Air Force(48-38), vs. BYU(21-16), vs. Fresno State(24-17), at New Mexico(45-14), vs. Utah State(33-24)
Losses: at Oklahoma State(21-44), vs. San Diego State(13-19), vs. Fresno State(16-19)
Record vs. bowl teams: 5-3
Brett Rypien kept getting better and better as the season went on with the exception of the blizzard in the MWC Championship. Alexander Mattison emerged as a very good back down the stretch as well.
Was Boise’s sometimes weak defense a product of the powerful offense? That’s the age old question that they ask of all good offenses. I will say that this team did pretty well against tough defenses. The only team they really had problems with was Oklahoma State. That was early and on the road.
Prediction:
A line of 2.5 looks magnified when playing a team with a defense like Boston College. This Boise offense is capable of covering it. They have a really good quarterback, a really good running back, and a bunch of good receivers. The Eagles can’t cover them all. I expect a really good game here, but Boise pulls away late.
Pick: Hawaii
Stay tuned for the rest of the bowl picks against the spread, and our DFS picks for the NBA, NFL, and even some NHL action! We have something for everyone!
