Week 8 will see plenty of movement in college basketball’s AP Top 25.
Right when college basketball looked like it was geared toward a quiet end to the 2018 calendar year, Week 8 brought out all the surprises.
Kansas played a true road game and it ended up biting the Jayhawks as they dropped their first contest of the year in an 80-76 loss to Arizona State. They’ll surrender their spot at the top of the AP Top 25 and we will have a new No. 1 in Week 8.
The Blue Devils took down No. 12 Texas Tech in a ranked battle and they could be the top contender for the No. 1 spot in the polls but Tennessee and Michigan are hot on their heels — along with Virginia who won a couple of games in Week 7.
North Carolina looked like one of the nation’s best teams a week ago when they beat Gonzaga by 13 points but the Tar Heels took a step back, losing 80-72 to an up-and-down Kentucky team. Right now, it’s hard to truly put a finger on either of those teams as the Tar Heels and Wildcats both have potential but haven’t been consistent enough.
Arizona State had the most confusing week of any team, losing to Vanderbilt on the road by 16 points and then taking down the aforementioned Jayhawks.
Buffalo, too, had a head-scratching week as they beat Syracuse at the Carrier Dome by 12 and then lost to Marquette by nearly 20. The Golden Eagles are red-hot these days and should see a nice bump in the rankings.
With all the action shaking things up in the AP Top 25, we could see a much different poll come Monday afternoon.
