A Christmas Story has gone from the little holiday film that could to a full-blown cult Christmas classic, and it helps that every year TBS and TNT have done a 24-hour marathon of the movie to help families get even deeper into the holiday spirit.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on TBS and 9 p.m. on TNT, A Christmas Story will play nonstop for a full 24-hours, carrying families through Christmas Eve and straight on through Christmas Day. TBS kicks off the marathon, and throughout the night fans can tune into both channels for some holiday fun.
A Christmas Story is the tale of little Ralphie as he and his family get ready for Christmas. All Ralphie wants is a Red Ryder BB Gun, but every attempt to ask for the gift is thwarted by cries of “you’ll shoot your eye out.” Despite being set around 1940, the movie does not lose its appeal with modern audiences who can relate to Ralphie’s plight.
The movie has yielded some very memorable scenes, including the Old Man and his leg lamp (“It’s a major award!”) and having Chinese food for Christmas dinner after the neighbor’s dogs destroy the family turkey. It’s one of the rare movies that spans generations and appeals to viewers of all ages, making it the perfect show to watch with the family.
