Over the past few years, this rivalry has hit a downturn as the 76ers were in the dump, and the Celtics had the upper-hand. However, both of these teams have moved up in stature, and this season, both are considered contenders in the Eastern Conference.
The 76ers have remained consistent over the season, being dominate at home and winning the games that they need to win on the road. With the early-season acquisition of Jimmy Butler, Philadelphia now has a bonafide “Big Three” that can tangle with anyone in the league.
Over their last four games, their defense and offense have dominated opponents both strong and weak, with their latest win being a demolition of the East-leading Toronto Raptors at home 126-101.
Now comes a slightly difficult stretch for Philadelphia, with the 76ers embarking on a five-game road trip that starts at Boston on Christmas.
While the Celtics are 19-13, they’ve had a season that many didn’t expect of them.
Before their 119-103 blowout win over the road-weary Charlotte Hornets on Dec. 23, the Celtics were on a three-game skid that included two losses that they probably should have handled with ease.
