After working hard through the entire holiday season, Walmart stores will close on Christmas Eve and reopen the day after Christmas.
Walmart is a top holiday shopping destination for many people, but when it comes down to the big day, all Walmart locations will be closed all day in observance of the Christmas holiday. That means you need to check that you have everything you need before Christmas Day or else you’ll have to wait until December 26.
Closing on Christmas Day is a reward for employees who came in on Thanksgiving Day and worked through the night for Black Friday. After a long holiday shopping season, employees can spend the holiday with family and friends before returning to work the day after Christmas.
Most Walmart locations will close at 6pm local time on Christmas Eve. Be sure to call ahead to confirm Christmas Eve hours because individual store hours may vary, especially at locations within major shopping malls.
Walmart being closed means you will need to do some planning ahead of Christmas Day. Check to make sure you have all of your gift wrapping supplies, ingredients for dinner and whatever household items you might need for family and other guests staying with you. Also be sure you have plenty of pet food on hand as well.
Keep in mind that the day after Christmas can be a busy time at shopping malls and major box stores as Christmas clearance sales begin, so if you want to avoid the final crowds of 2018 you might also shop early to make sure you can relax after celebrating Christmas with family and friends.
If you find yourself in a pinch on Christmas Day, you can count on 24-hour Walgreens locations, which will be open normal hours all day long. Otherwise, you will be able to shop at Walmart on December 26 during normal operating hours.
