The Atlanta Hawks have played better recently, and they’ll look to keep that play up as they entertain the lowly Cavaliers on Saturday.

It has taken some time, but the Atlanta Hawks are starting to figure out what it takes to win basketball games.

The improved Hawks will look to keep their high-energy play up on Saturday when they entertain the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers.

Atlanta (10-24) was looking like a doormat to start the season, losing and losing quite ugly. Over the last five games, however, the young Hawks have started to put things together, led by their star rookie Trae Young. After a blowout loss at Brooklyn, Atlanta went on a three-game winning streak, and have won four of their last five overall.

Their latest victory came on the road at the Minnesota Timberwolves, 123-120, on Friday. The Hawks nearly blew a big lead but was able to hold off the scattershot Timberwolves to cap off a resurgent week. Making their surge even more remarkable is the fact that they’re doing it playing one of their toughest stretches of the season.

After their home date against the Cavaliers (8-28), Atlanta will be back on the road for three games against the Pacers, Wizards and Bucks.

While the Hawks see some daylight to an otherwise rough season, the Cavaliers have continued to sink to the bottom of the Eastern Conference. The Cavs have some exciting pieces, especially rookie Collin Sexton; but they just can’t shake free of the losing bug, especially on the road, where they’ve lost four of their last five games, with the latest being a 118-94 waxing at the hands of the surging Miami Heat.

The Cavaliers will look to salvage their current three-game road trip in Atlanta before heading home for a four-game homestand. The Hawks and Cavs have split the first two games of this season series, with Atlanta blowing out the Cavs in Cleveland on Oct. 21(133-111), and the Cavaliers returning the favor on Oct. 30 (136-114).
