The Boston Celtics will look to rebound from a tough loss in Houston as they will make their only trip to Memphis to face the Grizzlies.
The Boston Celtics are a team that has the talent to dominate the Eastern Conference, but they’ve been scattershot throughout the first 34 games of the 2018-19 season.
The Celtics (20-14) will, once again, be looking to get back on the winning track when they continue a three-game road trip in Memphis to face a Grizzlies team that has now come back to earth.
After a four-game winning streak finally gave Celtic fans hope that they have turned the corner, they’ve now lost four of their last six games, which includes an ugly home loss to the basement Phoenix Suns and a blowout at the hands of the surging Milwaukee Bucks.
Their latest loss was a 127-113 drubbing at the hands of the Houston Rockets. Kyrie Irving had a double-double with 23 points and 11 assists, but they couldn’t overcome James Harden’s 45 point night that dropped the Celtics to 9-9 on the road.
Boston will wrap up their three-game trip at the San Antonio Spurs on New Year’s Eve, after which, they’ll open a four-game homestand to begin 2019.
While the Celtics have been stagnant on the road, being in Memphis provides them with an opportunity to tighten that ship away from New England. That’s because the Grizzlies (18-16) have been playing pretty poorly in front of their home crowd.

Memphis has lost three of their last five at FexEx Forum, but they are coming off of a 95-87 home win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Marc Gasol led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds, and Mike Conley added 15 points and eight rebounds for Memphis, who nearly blew a 17-point lead before salting it away to kick off a stretch of four of their next five games at home.
This is the first of two meetings between the Celtics and Grizzlies this season.
