The Golden State Warriors are looking to assure the NBA that they’re not dead yet when they pay a visit to Portland to face the Trail Blazers.

There are whispers going around that the Golden State Warriors’ five-year stranglehold on the NBA is about to come to an end.

While internally the Warriors (23-13) are becoming a bit nerved at their perceived end, their play on the court this season does suggest that there are problems that are bubbling to the surface in Oakland. They’ll attempt to quite the naysayers again on Saturday night when they pay a visit to the Portland Trail Blazers to cap off a back-to-back.

the 2018-19 season was supposed to be another year of Golden State dominance, especially since that couped the steal of the offseason by convincing DeMarcus Cousins to accept a veteran’s minimum to play a season in the Bay Area. Instead, they’ve looked out-of-sorts (for their standards), and teams are beginning to finally have success in batting back the Warriors usually high-octane attack.

That has been evident in the last two games.

The Warriors were stymied by the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas (127-101), and on Thursday, they lost a heartbreaker to the Trail Blazers (110-109). It was the first time in a while the Warriors have lost back-to-back games on their home floor, and those two losses may point the way to what many have been predicting — the end of a dominant era of NBA basketball.

The Blazers (20-15) are trying to chart their own path, and end the stigma of being a regular season team that doesn’t find much success in the playoffs. They’ve had games in which they look like legit contenders and others where they look downright horrible. That was the last two games for Portland, looking listless against the Utah Jazz on Christmas (117-96), only to put on an-all-around team performance in a huge win over the Warriors in Oakland.

Portland hopes that the time is now to finally make a run, as seven of their next eight games will be in the confines of the Moda Center, where they own a 13-5 record.
