The National Championship game between the Clemson Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide will be their third meeting in the last four seasons.
In one of the least dramatic nights of college football you’ll ever watch, the Alabama Crimson Tide and Clemson Tigers completely steamrolled the Oklahoma Sooners and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Now, Alabama and Clemson will be facing off in the national championship game for the third time in the last four years. After a night like Saturday, everyone is already looking ahead to make sure they can mark their calendars for a game that should hopefully be not nearly as lopsided.
The national championship will be taking place on Monday, January 7th at 8 pm ET. It won’t give the two teams a whole lot of time to rest, but at this point, all of the players on both teams will be running on pure adrenaline.
The only player national media outlets will be actively monitoring heading into the game will be Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who has been dealing with a pretty severe ankle injury he suffered during the SEC championship against Georgia. Although the Heisman Trophy finalist looked solid on Saturday, it’ll definitely be something outlets will want to continue to cover.
On the other side, Clemson’s true freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence looks as legit as advertised. He went 27-of-39 for 327 yards and three touchdowns against a strong Notre Dame defense, but Alabama’s defense will be a whole different animal.
Players like Quinnen Williams, Deionte Thompson, Raekwon Davis and Mack Wilson all look like potential first-round picks on the Crimson Tide defense. They showed that can completely suffocate an offense like Oklahoma’s, so Dabo Swinney’s crew will need to be creative to keep their young quarterback from imploding.
With this being the third time these two teams have faced off, there will be plenty on the line for this one. We’ll see if the Tigers have what it takes to pull off what would be a stunning upset of arguably the most talented team Saban has ever coached.
