Indiana Pacers New Year’s resolution — A bit more consistent player roles

The Pacers have been on a tear recently and are playing fantastic. The most you can really say is a bit more consistent player roles from one game to the next. Yes, there have been multiple injuries but it’s got to be jarring to players like Tyreke Evans and Darren Collison to be benched then start on-and-off. Once Thaddeus Young got acclimated to his role on the Pacers, for example, he’s been playing consistently great again after a slightly rough start to the season. You want players to know what’s expected of them every game and they’ll respond in kind. That said, Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis have really developed with Coach Nate McMillan’s tutelage. They have a real shot at maintaining a top four seed in the East, maybe even leading the whole thing at this rate.

Every team is going to have some woes during the ebb-and-flow of the season and the Pacers have adapted on-the-fly. The Pacers also masterfully rebuilt after losing Paul George and really Lance Stephenson, Danny Granger, and Roy Hibbert the last few years. Would rolling the dice on one more trade for anther big-name star be worth it? Maybe, they do have a lot of talent on that team that’s for sure. Though they can afford to take a chance, why take a risk when the current team is working so well?
