NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Monday December 31

We are back with another NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes for you daily fantasy players. We at FantasyCPR will have you covered with some snipes for tonight’s slate.

Happy New Years Eve everyone! It is great to be back. I know It has been some time since my last post, and what better way to get back into the swing of things than New Years Eve? With all of the excitement of the New Year just a day away, the NHL gives us a full 13-game slate to work with. Teams are trying to stay hot and hold onto their playoff spots, while others are looking to take down their rivals to make a run for the postseason. Either way, it should be a great night for hockey and a fantastic way to ring in the new year.

Each post for 2019 will provide a quick recap of players discussed in previous articles. Success is the clear goal, but it is important to understand our misses as well. See if we can find those trends that work, and areas we can improve.

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Center

Nathan MacKinnon Avalanche ($8,100)

Expensive on the slate, yes. But let’s get one thing straight, “If peeing in your pants is cool, then consider me Miles Davis.” MacKinnon and the Avs are in a “slump” by many standards. However, in NHL DFS a point per game in his last five games is hardly a slump. The guy has done nothing but dazzle all season with the 3rd most points in the entire NHL with 58.

MacKinnon performs well at home and on the road with a slight advantage on his home ice. He is averaging 6.1 FPPG in the thin Colorado air. In his one matchup with LA this season he had a goal and an assist in a 7-3 blowout. He received 18 minutes of ice time in that game due to the nature of the game. MacKinnon is sitting just above 22 minutes of ice time per game.

Mathew Barzal Islanders ($6,200)

Let’s ride the hot hand here with Barzal. Normally, it would be hard to follow-up a three-point night that he put up against Ottawa with a two goals and an assist. But he came out the very next night on the road in Toronto with a hat trick. If my calculations are in fact correct, that is SIX points in his last two games.

Sure, it’s a small sample size and anyone can get hot for two games. But Barzal has been on a fantastic streak of late. In his last 10 games he has 14 points on seven goals and seven assists. The Calder Trophy winner of last year said no to a sophomore slump. Let’s hope he doesn’t change his underwear, or wash his uniform because we don’t want anything getting in the way of this hot streak.

Barclay Goodrow Sharks ($2,500)

If you decide to spend big in a few other spots, it is important to find those value plays to fit your budget. Insert Barclay Goodrow. He is at minimum price, and finding time on the fourth line. The Sharks have great depth throughout their lines which allows Goodrow the opportunity to play alongside Joonas Donskoi and Melker Karlsson.

He has five points in his last two games all assists. His numbers on the season are nothing special with 11 points, but his ice time is increasing. That boost in ice time is in large part because of his outstanding ability to possess the puck. Goodrow has a CF% of 56.9 and a FF% of 58.0.

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Winger

Mikko Rantanen Avalanche ($7,700)

If you plan on spending big on MacKinnon, you must consider picking his partner in ice crime (man I want ice cream) Mikko Rantanen. As remarkable a season Mac has put up, Rantanen has been even better! He is second in points with 61. You would have to feel pretty comfortable having the 2nd and 3rd leading scorers in the NHL on your roster.

This strategy however will look better in cash games rather than a tournament. It has been one of the more popular pairs the entire season. There is definitely no shock factor in picking them both, but it is one of the safer bets.

Rantanen has established himself as one of the premier set-up guys with silky smooth handles and an uncanny ability to find the open teammate. He and MacKinnon have worked wonders on the power play as Rantanen has eight goals and 13 assists with the man advantage.

Brady Tkachuk Senators ($5,000)

Tkachuk is a stud in the making in the NHL and has proven this with his all around play in his rookie season. He has certainly been through a lot this year with an injury that kept him out for some time and a recent eight game point drought. If we put that behind, the man-child has put up 20 points in 28 games on 10 goals and 10 assists.

The 6’3” 19 year old is willing to scrap with the best of them and throw around his body as well. He has 63 hits on the season. Against the current holder of the Stanley Cup, Capitals, Tkachuk dished out two assists and a few punches with 17 penalty minutes. He is near 50/50 in offensive and defensive zone starts and has great Corsi numbers with a CF% of 53.1 and a FF% of 54.3.

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Defense and Goalie

Kris Letang Penguins ($6,200)

The higher priced defenseman tend to be lower priced than top-tier offensive talent and for good reason. They don’t put up nearly the number of goals or points for that matter. Letang is the second most expensive defender on DraftKings this evening. He has a nice match up against the Minnesota Wild, who rank 20th against opposing defense.

More from FanSided

The Pens are on a five game win streak and Letang is on a three game point streak. He has a goal and four assists throughout his streak and eight points in his last 10 games. Letang is on the first power play unit, which is a big deal with the Penguins playing alongside Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Phil Kessel and Patric Hornqvist.

Victor Hedman Lightning ($5,800)

Big #77 on Tampa has put on quite the display in his last 10 games with nine points and a +12. The 1st line defenseman eats up a ton of time on the ice time averaging 22:49 per game. The 2017/18 Norris Trophy winner is having a slight down year statistically due to injury, but looks to be ramping things up before the playoffs.

Hedman had 72 points two seasons ago and 63 last year. In 32 games this season, he has 23 points with just four goals and 19 assists. He is currently on a three game point streak and will look to extend that while catching up to where he normally sits in the points category.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Lightning ($8,200)

Vasilevskiy is the second most expensive goalie on the slate but has a great matchup against a poor Anaheim team. He stands in net behind the top team in the NHL. With Vasilevskiy in net, the Lightning are 14-3-2 and give up just 2.66 goals per game. His last few games have not been stellar, even though he is winning the games. If you are paying this price for a goalie, we expect a win and then some. We will see if Vasilevskiy can get back on track in the save department tonight.
