Ray Donovan was channeling Liam Neeson in Taken on the show’s latest episode as Mickey and Ray put aside their differences and reunited for an all-out war.

You don’t mess with Ray Donovan’s daughter or Mickey Donovan’s granddaughter, a fact officer and jet-ski aficionado Danny Bianchi found out the hard way this episode. It was Murphy’s Law on this week’s Ray Donovan episode with everything that could go wrong, truly going wrong for Ray. At first, things were looking up for Ray, as he managed to escape Rad and Danny after leaping out of a second story window. He called over Sam Winslow to hand over his recording of Mayor Ferrati ordering a hit on a Judge — a moment he would regret for the rest of the episode.
After leaving his impromptu diner meeting with Winslow, thinking the two of them square, he arrived at his apartment still badly hurt. None other than Mickey was waiting for him with a gun pointed and $3 million dollar return request. Ray actually collapsed on the floor, and Mickey bandaged up his son, putting him on a bed. When Ray awoke he uncharacteristically apologized to Mickey, something he would later do in the episode when he apologized to Terry over the phone for “all of it.”
Ray received a call from Smitty that something was wrong, that Bridget is missing and her phone/purse is still in their car. Ray and Mac would talk soon afterwards on the phone, and Ray’s worst fear was realized. Bridget was taken by the Ferrati’s cops. Upon hearing the news, Mickey accompanied Ray over to Sam Winslow’s.
Ray asked Sam for the USB flash drive with the recording back as they’ll kill his daughter otherwise. Sam gave the drive back without fight since she had already made dozens of copies of it. Despite knowing Bridget would be killed if she released the recording to the public, she does so through an article anyway. Clicking the approve button as editor that could potentially sentence Ray’s daughter to death, and with a smile. She then met with Anita Novak to tell her she’s about to become the “most powerful political in New York City” however, the real Mayor won’t be her, it’ll be Sam Winslow.
Above: Mac had a dark dynamic with Bridget, first removing the gag if she promised to stay quiet. Then after hitting Bridget when she screamed for help, he apologized for doing so. However, when he put on a movie and she asked him to change it because she watched it with her mother before she passed, Mac put the gag back in.
He didn’t turn off the movie either, as he started reminiscing about how much he’s messed up in the past and all throughout his life. Mac spoke about how he couldn’t remember the last time he felt good. When he heard Ray got to Danny, he panicked, knowing his family was at stake if he failed. As he told Bridget, “I don’t care about what happens to me, but I have a family.”
Above: Bunchy asked for a grand from Terry to take a plane and restart his life, trying to convince Terry to go with him. Terry declined, citing that he would “just slow him down” but offered the grand. Terry told Bunchy he should just “hand the old man over” and in general to never speak about harming himself again. Bunchy would get arrested soon after as the two brothers made eye contact as Bunchy was being taken away.
Above: Mickey would pretend to be a friendly “old man” just trying to make some bar talk to Danny Bianchi before punching him. Daryll and Smitty would join in hitting Danny before Mickey pulled out a gun as they took Danny away. Ray, Mickey, Daryll, and Smitty would talk Danny to a secluded area where Mickey would beat Danny, demanding to know where Bridget is being held.
Danny refused to speak until Ray told him his father would kill Danny, and that it’s last chance. That he’ll go after Danny’s family and he won’t stop there if he doesn’t get his daughter back. That he’ll never stop. Taken style! At first, Danny declined until Mickey pointed the gun right at his face and told him to “say goodbye!” Danny gave the address and Smitty took Danny in his car’s trunk over to Sandy’s on direction from Ray.
Above: Mickey saved Ray from being blindsided, shooting the would-be assailant in the head. However, the Donovan’s were unsuccessful in locating Bridget. She’d already been taken out of the house, only her necklace left for Ray to find.
