2019 NFL mock draft: Giants take Dwayne Haskins
By Brad Weiss
The Green Bay Packers were one of the more disappointing teams in the NFL this past season, and they finished off their 2018 campaign by getting shutout by the Detroit Lions. Along the way, Green Bay fired head coach Mike McCarthy, who became the second coach in NFL history to be fired during a season after winning a Super Bowl for the same organization.
In McCarthy’s absence, the team went with Joe Philbin on an interim basis, but he is likely not the long-term answer at head coach. Whoever comes in will have to deal with Aaron Rodgers, who ended up having an icy relationship with McCarthy, and it ended with McCarthy being given the pink slip during the season.
Rodgers is still one of the better quarterbacks in the league, but he definitely looked human this season. Sure, his statistics were great, but he missed throws he usually makes, and the offense was downright bad at times. The defense also struggled, especially in the secondary, and that is where they should focus their first round pick in 2019.
During the season, Green Bay traded away Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, and if they were wise, they would replace him with the best safety in this draft class in Deionte Thompson. Thompson has been a leader on an elite Alabama defense for years now, and at the NFL level, he will be able to step in and be an immediate impact player.
